DR Evil .vs. Evil Characters

Vlos

First Post
Ok, this came up in our last session and caught some of us by surprise. So we made a quick ruling on it, but I told the GM I would throw it here for confirmation.

Characters (or creatures) with DR x/Evil (where lets say x = 5) is not by-passed by just an evil NPC, just because he is evil.

The NPC (that is evil) must have an weapon that has an evil aligned weapon to bypass that.

An Evil Outsider would also by-pass the DR x/Evil with it's natural attacks.

What about DR x/Magic? Does a Magical Beasts natural weapons automatically by-pass DR x/Magic?

Creatures with DR /magic can bypass DR /magic with their natural attacks. Nothing to do with the "magical beast" creature type.

Correct.

Incidentally this means the Blood War, which is fought between monsters that all have DR/good, has an extremely low casualty rate as most of the combatants can't hurt one another.

Two DR/magic creatures can hurt one another. Angels and fiends can hurt one another.

Lycanthropes can't hurt lycanthropes (DR/silver), golems can't hurt golems and fey can't hurt fey.

All of them CAN hurt one another. They just have to deal more damage a hit that the victim has DR to soak. 2 handed weapons and power attack is all one needs when it comes to most DR's. I dislike that being the situation, but it is the system.

One house rule I use is that outsiders with DR/evil or DR/good also have DR/lawful or DR/chaotic if they are one of the extreme alignments - so that devils, being LE, are actually DR/good or chaotic, and demons are DR/good or lawful - and thus devils and demons bypass each other's DR and the blood war goes on. This makes the Yugoloths even more valuable as mercenaries to either side, since being NE, they are only DR/good and neither the devils or demons can bypass their DR.

I am disappointed-- I thought this was going to be a tread about Dr. Evil's plans of villainy.

:D

Yep, me too. Some nefarious plot to steal "One Millllllllllllllion Dollars!"

Well... not to derail but why can't a demon or devil use a good aligned weapon??
or even a holy weapon but suffering the 2 negative levels?

Sure, fiends can wield good-aligned weapons, but how common would that be in the Blood War? Not very, I'd say.

Actually, a creature with DR can overcome that DR with its natural weapons. The reference source and page number seems to elude me right now though.
