Dr. Si's Curse of the Crimson Throne - Escape From Old Korvosa

"See you tomorrow. Your Majesty." Edmond barely sketches a bow, the delay between his greeting and the title obvious.

After the group left:
"So, we have one day to find out what's going on in Arcona backyard. Any ideas? If I remember correctly they closed down at the same time when Old Korvosa was quarantined, but that could be only disease protection. Do we try front door first? Or go below immediately? I'd like to ask immediate audience, but with all this trouble, I don't really expect it."

"I would be most inclined to try the front door," says Ignatius. "Unless we have reason to this this Glorio Arkona fellow is up to no good himself. Mr. Scream did not exactly have an opportunity to elaborate on the connection between him and Orsini."

"In any case, do any of you need a bit of a sprucing up after that match? Those guys played rough," he says, feigning indignance. "Though not as rough as us," he adds with a grin.

Mhairi maintains her silence until they are comfortably out of the Emperor's palace complex, and checks quickly to make sure there are no tails on their little group. "We should always try the front door first. Let me wash this crap off my face and get changed, and we can try straight away. Ed, you can always knock on the front door. With that loveably ugly beard of yours, nobody will turn you away. I can watch from a distance. We don't have to get Orsini out, just talk to him. Even if you can't talk to him Ed, if you find out where he is then I can go in and talk to him later tonight. There is always a way in to these places..."

Manachan nods easily at the others' planning. "Aye, the front door is always to my taste if it's open. The sneaking and skulking about leaves an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach . . . I recognize that it's sometimes necessary, but I'm not built as, um, practically as you all."

After a clean up and a bit of a rest, the group sets out for Akona Palance, sited on the highest point of Old Korvosa. Devargo excuses himself from attending, stating that he had no desire to meet his former patrons. He says that he will send Boil to the orphanage, to be better looked after but also to contact him should the group decide to go against the Emperor at any stage in the future.

The gates to Arkon Palace are closed, as expected. Beyond lies a lush garden and the domes and spires of the palace, richly appointed in the Vudran style, rises beyond. (Edmond and Mhairi, as Korvosan natives, know that the Arkona family made its fortune in trade with Vudra). Guards stand on the opposite side of the gate.

"State your business," says one of them.

"Good sirs," begins Ignatius, clasping his hands together and bowing slightly and politely, "My companions and I seek an audience with Master Glorio. It concerns a mutual friend, and we have been informed that Master Glorio might be knowledgeable about his whereabouts. I am sure members of the Arkona family have much of their own business to attend to, and we have ample time to lounge if they are not immediately available. We would not want to inconvenience anyone."

The guards glance at each other.

"Wait here," says the one who spoke before. Neither of them move from their post, not say anything more, but shortly a man is seen coming down the path from the palace, dressed smartly in Vudran silks with a dark beard and an eyepatch. He beckons for the guards to open the gate and bows as you enter.

"Welcome to Palace Arkona," he says. "My name is Carnochan, factotum to Lord Arkona. I understand you wish to speak to the master? If you'd care to follow me, I'll inform him of your arrival." He leads the way up the path, falling in to step beside Edmond. "I recognise you, sir," he says politely. "You are an acquaintance of Ms. D'Arches, I believe. I recall the, um, change of management at All the Worlds Meat. And I hear things concerning your role in the ending of the plague. I'm sure the master would be most interested in meeting you."

The grounds around the palace are filled with exotic plants, laid out in colourful parterre. In front of the palace entrance is a fountain in the style of Vudran animals - elephants, snakes, tigers. Carnochan leads you through the main doors into a plushly carpeted hallway, then around to the right and through a door. At the end of the hallway is a statue of a typically Vudran deity with multiple arms and faces. Beyond the door is a salon decorated with a peacock motif. Carnochan gestures for you to enter and indicates the table bearing fruits and sweetmeats, a pitcher of drink.

"Please make yourselves comfortable," he says. "I will inform the master of your arrival."

OOC: Forgot to mention that for obtaining an audience with the Emperor, participating in the game of Blood Pig and for getting information from Scream, you all get 2800 XP each.

"I'm honored, good man. I'll help Korvosa any way I can, as, I think will any true Korvosan. With or without crowns help." answers Edmond, polite, but unemotional.

"Thanks," Mhairi says, flashing the fabulously dressed factotum a genuine smile. She followed the others in, enjoying the sight of a truly wealthy palace in peace. Truth be told, old habits die hard and she still surveyed the area for access, patrols and hidden protective measures. Catching herself in the act, Mhairi thinks Well, I suppose some habits are worth keeping. Never know...I could be back here tonight trying to bust this Orsini guy out.

Inside, Mhairi has nothing much to say, so pours herself a drink and wanders around the area, looking at the objects d'art and continuing her survey.
