Dragonlance Dragons of Deceit: Check Out the Dragonlance Novel Cover

While we've known about the upcoming Dragonlance novel trilogy since October 2020, Margaret Weis has shared the wraparound cover of the first book in the new Dragonlance novel trilogy, Dragons of Deceit and confirmed the release date August 9th 2022.

As we've noted before, Weis & Hickman are using the brand "Classic Dragonlance" which features the older-style title banner.

We've known about it for a while due to lawsuits and product placeholder pages on Amazon, but Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have just announced their new Dragonlance series of novels! It returns 'the most beloved characters from the original novels', as well as a 'new, strong protagonist'...

Previous information indicated that the second book in the trilogy would be called Dragons of Fate.

Tracy Hickman shared some more information, including the book description which was revealed back in November.

Margaret Weis commented on the logo usage -- "We are so pleased that Wizards of the Coast permitted us to use the classic Dragonlance logo from 1984. The logo was designed by the TSR art director at the time, the late James Roslof, and was hand-painted by Larry Elmore."

Personal preference and all, but-
(1) I prefer books to use a little bit of literary license; and
(2) I think really powerful items should have distinctive names - it's fine to have a wand of magic missiles, but it's not like you'd call the Invulnerable Coat of Arnd the Chainmail of Real Good Protection.
(3) The term device, as in a mechanical contrivance, feels weird when talking about magic.

Anyway, that's just one thing. I hope fans like the new trilogy! Sometimes, you have to be careful what you wish for. I remember that after Gygax left, he wrote some more Gord books ... which were somehow worse than the ones he wrote at TSR. And TSR had Rose Estes write some books ... and ouch.

Sometime you get what you deserve, and sometimes you get it good and hard while reading about the energetic Tasslehoff Burrfoot.

Almost sounds like they wrote Device of Time Travelling, thought it sounded too cliche so clicked on the thesaurus and chose Journeying to fix it. Almost

I understand Snarf's concern that those items are all just from the synopsis, it is a lot in a little paragraph, but I am not overly concerned. Dragonlance fans are going to feel that warm blanket of nostalgia returning to Krynn and new readers are going to experience Dragonlance warts and all. It's not like the original trilogy was not full of D&D items and almost punny names. I am also glad that they are using the original logo. After the contract nastiness, it seems WotC is giving themselves an out if they want to produce a Ravenlofted Dragonlance with a new logo to differentiate. Good for both parties I think, New Coke and Coca-Cola Classic coexisting.

On the one hand, I'm pretty sure you mean an updated Dragonlance.

On the other hand ... GOTHIC HORROR DRAGONLANCE! I mean, they're halfway to the horror part just by including kender!
