Drow

Yes, but many D&D players (including me) don't have a lot of those books. The Monster Vault should contain all of the iconic monsters and they should all be usable.

Drow are included, but there are not enough for them to be usable in any way other than a single encounter.

Wait, you claim the drow get no love, yet are in every Monster book and the guides for FR and Eberron?

And then complain you don't own all those books?!?!?!

Your expectations are a little....out there. As suggested above, a DDI subscription would get you all the stat blck info as well as teh Dungeon and Dragon articles.

What other iconic monster would you have them cut out?

If the resources are there in literally every monster product, not to mention a Players Handbook and an Essentials book, I do not think there is any lack of available Drow. Rather, it sounds like you want a product idealized for your monster taste.

Now, that's fine- but it is totally disingenuous to claim that "WotC doesn't like Drow".

The question ought not be, "Why doesn't WotC put more Drow in the limited space available in this one keystone product," but rather "Why doesn't my group throw in on a Monster Manual or MM2?"

Drow are now my favorite D&D monster, and I'm upset to see that they didn't even get their own entry in the Monster Vault (just a small section in the elf entry). There weren't even stats for priestesses, which are really a must if you are going to run an adventure involving the dark elves.

Why doesn't WotC like drow?

1) Lurkers are hard to run.
2) Drow poison must be balanced, therefore it's weak.
3) Drow and other Underdark threats are paragon level, and most MV monsters are heroic level.
4) You can find drow priestesses in the MM1 (the very first monster book), then use the new monster math to fix them up. They're actually kind of weak, not having many abilities (at least, not many that don't involve murdering their "allies"). You can also use the blade spider as-is; the math is already balanced.

Seriously though, just use the MM1 and the new monster math. Or even make your own. "Sleep poison shot" could be a drow crossbowman's encounter or recharge ability.

Why doesn't WotC like drow?

By your reasoning, WotC doesn't like any of the player races except humans, since all of them except humans have less varieties then the drow have in the Monster Vault. They also don't like trolls, ogres, cyclops, kobolds, goblins, bugbears, hobgoblins, ettins, drakes, red dragons, and the vast majority of other monsters either.

Silliness aside, drow have plenty of support. They've got more varieties in the Monster Vault than the majority of other types of monsters and humanoids, as well as driders and plenty of spiders.
