[Eberron] Queen with Burning Eyes

Hobbes - Shifter Barbarian

"Talk with the beasts if you like but I doubt they have any useful information, but don't get too close to them and mind your purse." I then walk over to the lift and prepare to be lowered down to the next level, making sure to keep a look out for anyone that might be taking too much of an interest in us.

OOC: His main tenets (as far as you know) is that warforged are incapable of living with other species (as they are inferior bags of flesh) and require a seperate homeland where they can grow in power, and support each other.

OOC: Seems he's more of a psycho than I thought. I'd somehow gotten the idea he might be some sort of misguided freedom fighter/charismatic rebel sort of guy. Anvuss would definitely not aprove of anyone who called his friends "inferior bags of flesh."

Anvuss shrugs when no one else jumps forward to the task. Friendly conversation would be welcome.

"Hello, sirs. Do you perhaps have any information you could share about the area below here? I am travelling in that direction and wonder what I might be headed into. Have you heard of a bar called the 'Red Hammer?', the fellow at the front door suggested I might try it, but was unable to provide directions. Are you from the city of Sharn, or are you visiting? If a visitor, where have you come from? Did you see anything of particular interest in your travels?"

Anvuss doesn't seem to realize he may have asked far too many questions at once, but he has tried to ask them as earnestly and politely as possible.

OOC: Charisma 12, no pertinent skills.

Tok

"I suppose I could ask some questions...let's see..."

Tok concentrates momentarily, and then grows a little bit, his face hardening into the features of a surly and hairy human, complete with broken nose and a long jagged scar running alongside his stubble-covered jawline.

Tok affects a deep, gravelly voice.

"So, do I look like I have business talking to rough-customer bugbears? Here goes nothing."

Tok looks at his groupmates for a few moments appraisingly..."Anvuss, come with me, I could use some immediate backup in case I say something they don't care for. The rest of you, stay here and come over if we get into trouble. Anvuss, let's try and look tough."

Tok walks over to the bugbears and says "Some kid outside sez you two is the ones I wanna be talking with if I wanna know where the Red Hammer is. He sez you two is some pretty tough bugbears to be runnin around downstairs. Maybe the kid's right. Where's the Red Hammer?"

One of the bugbears looks up from his game as you approach, glancing over his shoulder in your direction. They continue with their game as you talk to them, paying more attention to their cards than anything you have to say. When you think they might be ignoring you, the closest one turn his head towards you again, and growls in common, "I might, human. What's it worth to you?"

He looks at Anvuss for a moment and then addresses Tok again, "And why doesn't your metal friend ask me? It's more of his kind of place."

Anvuss brightens as he's (at least indirectly) adressed.

"Greetings! I would certainly have adressed you myself, but I felt it was apropriate to allow my friend to start the conversation. I have noticed that the responses he gets tend to be substantially more predictable than how people respond to me. He has far more experience talking to people of all different types and temperments. Have you noticed that some people will respond to a totally innocent question with great anoyance? I think it might have something to do with my manner of speaking, but as yet I have not fully determined what exactly that might be. In any event, my comrade has asked the very question to which I am directing the majority of my concern. How does one get to the Red Hammer? And also, are there any other points of interest between here and there? By the way, thank you for responding in such a friendly manner to our inquiry. One can never be sure that will be the case. In fact..."

He turns to Tok "Would you say his manner is friendly? I am sometimes mistaken in that regard."

Tok allows himself a look of amusement and addresses the bugbear.

"heh...that's why I asked."

Tok then turns to Anvuss and says "I don't know...maybe he is friendly, maybe he isn't. What do you think? Would five gold pieces make him friendly?I think five gold might go a long way in befriending him."

Tok reaches into his pouch and pulls out the gold and lays it on the table.

Magnus

Magnus observes the exchange but tries not to attract to much attention from the bugbears. He's not paranoid but still...

As Anvuss is talking, you can see the bugbear get more and more annoyed. His massive eyerbrows begin to furl and you catch him rolling his eyes a few times. When the gold is placed upon the table, however, his expression changes immediately. The taller bugbear looks down at the gold on the table, regarding it for a moment. When his companion reaches over towards it, the other lets out a low canine growl and bears his sizable teeth. The reaching hand is immediately withdrawn and the shorter bugbear goes back to looking at his cards with some intensity.

The humanoid you had been talking to turns back to Anvuss and Tok, "Take the platform down to the Blackbones. Walk past the two forges on the far side of the cavern, and then through the Caves beyond that. On the far side of the Caves you'll find the Red Hammer. You can't miss it, it looks like a huge forge." He gives you a toothy grin and turns back to his game.
