D&D 5E EB's One Shot #3: The Lady of the Mist - OOC (full)

Ryder has been changed to a Half Elf, because Badger is taking up Slot D. FYI, Ryder bears an uncanny resemblance to Matthew McConaughey.

Ryder’s past is as mysterious and ever changing as himself. Sometimes, he acts like a scoundrel and vagabond, living on his wits and silver tongue. Other times, he appears to be the son of a nobleman of some place too far to corroborate, though his intimate knowledge of court etiquette suggests there may be some truth to that. Or he’s just a good con artist.

Not at all Greenmtn Welcome.

I'm going to go over characters and start this little shin-dig by WED the latest. Give me a go/no go if I have the correct characters here....

KahlessNestor - Ivar, duergar urban bounty hunter barbarian
tglassy - Ryder, half-elf rogue or Badger, wizard, school of invention
JustinCase - Mister Bubbles, half-orc warlock
jmucchiello - Lee, wood elf monk
Greenmtn - you have anyone with the spare the dying cantrip or cure wounds? looks like they may be needed.

I have No problem using Bilkar again. He's got healing spells but no spare the dying. I was muddling over a couple ideas for A and B types since I don't have those filled yet. It doesn't sound like my Type D is a good fit.

You did say that the character options from Xanathars are all open to us right?

For planning purposes for now I would say expect a Crazy Gnome Druid and if I'm going to change that to a new character I'll let you know tomorrow.

Spare the dying isn't super necessary. It lets you do at range what you can do with a healer's kit, and only clerics really get it. Cure Wounds or Healing Word are more important.

I'm good to go, though :)

Xanathar;s Guide is open for character options. If you do go with Bilkar you'll need to do any pre-shopping/downtime here in the OOC once we get it all squared away I would like for people to use their opening post in the newer game to list all of it for easy reference.

Some character reviews:

Ryder:
- Dex listed as 17, believe that should be a 16
- racial abilities not listed: Darkvision and Fey Ancestry
- light armor needs to be listed under proficiencies

Mister Bubbles:
- dagger should be +5 atk, 1d4+3 dmg, finesse weapons allow you to use either STR or DEX whichever is higher

Lee:
- only spent 27pts out of 29pts for abilities
- sorry but equipment is way off, she only starts with 20gp for equipment

Ivar
- all good

Bilkar
- good/Save for any shopping you wish to do before we start.

Been working on how to get everything rolling and will hopefully be getting started soon.

Lee:

Under Monk, pg 77 of PHB, a monk starts with:
* a shortsword or a simple weapon * she chose short bow, a simple weapon
* a dungeoneer's pack or an explorer's pack * she chose explorer's pack.
* 10 darts * she sold.

Under Alcolyte, pg 127 of PHB, equipment:
holy symbol
prayer book or prayer wheel
5 sticks of incense
vestiments
a set of common clothes
a pouch containing 15 gp.

Darts cost 5 cp each or 5 sp. Quarterstaff costs 2 sp, leaving 3 sp.

and her equipment list is
Short bow
Quarterstaff
Explorer’s Pack: backpack, bedroll, mess kit, tinderbox, 10 torches, 10 days of rations, waterskin. 50 feet hempen rope
Holy symbol to Belenus (a solar disk), prayer book, prayer wheel
5 sticks of incense
vestiments
common clothes
belt pouch (15 gp, 3 sp)

What she is missing is arrows and a quiver, each for 1 gp and she shouldn't have both a prayer book and a prayer wheel. So I'll change that to:

Short bow
40 arrows, in a quiver
Quarterstaff
Explorer’s Pack: backpack, bedroll, mess kit, tinderbox, 10 torches, 10 days of rations, waterskin. 50 feet hempen rope
Holy symbol to Belenus (a solar disk), prayer book
5 sticks of incense
vestiments
common clothes
belt pouch (12 gp, 3 sp)

And I forgot this game uses 29 point buy. I've bumped CON to 14 from 13. Updated sheet in the One Shots RG.

Well, yes, except that I typed it under "ranged" and then it's just DEX. If I use it in melee, you're absolutely right. :)

Doesn't matter if it's ranged. It also has the Thrown property as well as Finesse, so you just use the highest of Strength or Dexterity with it, regardless of ranged or melee.

What he means is you don't start with the starting equipment. You start with max gold for class. For a monk, that's 5d4=20gp. Then you buy your equipment a la carte. So no way, for example, to have the shortbow (25 gp).

........you know, I've never thought about that. Fair point. Thanks for making me realize this! I'll change it in the RG.

Equipment is updated:

10 Shuriken (aka Darts)
Quarterstaff
backpack, bedroll, mess kit, tinderbox, soap (5 bars), waterskin
Holy symbol to Belenus (a solar disk)
common clothes, robes
belt pouch (8 gp, 3 sp)

So each of you are in town for various reasons of your own. But a little side adventure has raised its head for you all to jump into.

Please describe your characters as you walk through town towards the royal stables, and discuss anything you like.

Here is the start of the IC thread.
