Exalted 2nd Edition Game

Right now I'm leaning towards a yes. Because someone who wants to play and can fit is a good thing for any game. But also because a Heroic Mortal will not tip the scales of balance. But you have to come in ready for a few things. First off, you will be much weaker than everyone else. Maybe not at first, but it will happen. I did a Heroic Mortal/Dragon Blooded/Lunar Game that was great. Until the Lunar got involved, then the scale of combat got really weird. That one character could have taken the entire party himself. Inorder for him to be chalenged, the others were placed in a dangerous fight. This will happen to you at some point.

Second, the only in games ways for you to gain Charms is for you to Exalt (which we'll have to see if we need more power for that to happen) or one of the other players (or an NPC) would have to take two Charms and give you the ability to gain Essence.

Once the game get to a certain point, you will have to pick your battles carefully. There will be times when the opponents are designed for the more combat based exalts. These characters should be able to take out a Heroic mortal without much thought, or I haven't done my job right.

Also, though i'm confident Shayuri is still playing, until i see a character sheet there's no way to know if he will or not, then we'll have an opening for another exalt.

So start thinking how you fit into the game best. i'd prefer if you were already attached to another character. The Dawn has a crap ton of Followers with him (unless you get rid of that Background Dogma) Or if you had a strange enough background, you could be with the elmental dragon in the west. Some of these guys are going to start off by themselves, and I have no problem with having two players together for a bit. [/sblock]

on to other stuff:

I can't imagine doing Exalted without a little bit of Deathlord, Demons, and Fair Folk, but we'll see how important they become to the "plot". Keep in mind that on some level you guys are going to push your own plots. if you want to fight demons, you'll know how to find them. All i want to do right now is find a neat and compelling reason to get all you people from all over the world into the same room.

Tiger Form is super cool. I'll let you get away with one or even two Charms do to your Past Life Merit, but sooner or later you're going on a Sifu (Master) hunt if you want to learn more.

i'm still swimming through it here. Tiger Style is awesome. I'm contemplating melding the 2 styles together at some point, so its simply a question of which to start with.
Though at this point, I'm gonna start with Solar Hero, and maybe Past Lives a Tiger Charm or 2 later on.

Well, I think in SotM it said that all Exalts were assumed to have a charm that could grant mortals manipulation of Essence or something like that, but that could have been a misread. Anyway, yeah, the plan is to be weaker than most. Even though a mortal can get Terrestrial Martial Arts and Thaumaturgy, I know there's no way I'll keep up with Exalts (with some really clever tactics maybe I could keep up with a low powered DB, but...). Anyway, later on in the story (read: whenever the group needs it or the GM wants it) I guess it would be possible for him to Exalt.

(Edit: I just realized I made it sound like I wanted him to Exalt... Just to be clear, I don't care if he Exalts or not, it's just a matter of what the ST thinks is best for the plot)

I know that in the group combats the Exalts will outshine him. His story will be more about him trying to reach their level and not being able to, as well as his own personal battles that he will be getting into. I'm sure I can find a way to get into some conflicts where I won't have a group of Solar Exalts backing me up.

As for being tied to one of the Exalts already, I'll have to read through all of their backgrounds and try to fit something in. I'll post his background either later today or tomorrow if that's OK.

I am back!

Boy howdy...that's an intimidating pile of posts to go through. Any chance of a summary?

Here's what I most need.

- Character generation info. Any special rules, limits, etc.

- A quick list of the other PC's and what their respective niches are, so I don't trample anyone. I was gonna go for a 'ninja' type sneakmaster/assassin martial artist neem. But I'm flexible.

Anything else of note I should know?

Well anything I had just for you has been placed in a sblock. I also tried to sblock off stuff you can skip easily.

The last post from last page has a semi recap of everyone’s combat stuff and the long posts from other players tend to be character backstory.

I don’t really have any limits, just whatever’s in the books. If you have Exalted Player’s Guide, I’m allowing Merits and Flaws. The only 2nd Edition book I don’t have is the new Scavenger Lands book, so if you want something from one of those other books take it. Just know that taking things like Warstriders change the scope of the game, and others players aren’t up to that level as well they will suffer for it. Not that I see the Night in a walking battle tank, but you get the idea.

Let me know Intimacies and Motivation, where you were born, raised, and currently living, and what languages you speak. For sake of game play, we all might want to take a common language, as the trade language Riverspeak is used almost world wide. However, if you guys want to go through the game play of trying to learn a language in game, that’s fine (it can be kind of neat)

I put a post out about if you want to exalt during the game or not, read it and let me know what you think.

And this is question for everyone.

Have any of you read the comic book series or any of the novels, and if so which ones. Also the one adventure book white wolf put out, Time of Tumult. I’m looking for story ideas, and even though I’d have to change a lot of stuff to make any of those work, I don’t want use something you’ve already read before.

Oh and Lonoto, in regards to your email about Martial Arts Weapons, I’d prefer to just stick with what’s in the books. Gaining Melee Weapons as M Arts weapons is one of the advantages of supernatural training. Also, there would be no reason for you ever to use or take Melee.

Sharuyi, all our background already include the moment of our exaltation, so you have the possibility to Exalt in game if you want to.

OK, this is what I've got so far for my character's history.

Name: Leon Steele
Concept: Heroic Mortal Martial Artist

Living along the Summer Mountains in the South East, Leon hails from a small village of strong martial heritage. His village, situated at the base of one of the mountains, is mostly active as support to a temple of warrior-monks that lays halfway up said mountain. Every citizen is trained in the basics of martial arts, and most would have no trouble fighting off a raider or two single-handedly, possibly even unarmed. They are all hardy and well conditioned, and most have tanned skin and bleached hair from long days spent training in the sun.

Being an outsider to begin with, Leon does not remember where he is from. He arrived at a young age, the people of the village believe he was around four-years-old when he arrived (making him around nineteen now); the villagers took him in. They taught him what they knew, raised him, fed him, and clothed him. One family in particular, with the name of Steele, could not conceive a child. Seeing Leon as a blessing, they took him in and raised him. Noah and Laura Steele are his parents, and they gave him the name of Leon. In return, his pure young heart rewarded them with the sound of his voice, and he often sang for the villagers to repay them for all they did for him.

As he grew older, he began to fit in more with the children of the village, as weekly a warrior-monk would descend from the mountains to train all of the children. Some who wished to live the life of a monk were taken to live with them. Leon excelled during these training times, and became popular among the children, most of whom knew nothing about his orphan heritage. For a long time, all was good in the village.

However, as with most good things, the peace did not last. Late one night, when Leon was (believed to be) sixteen, the alarm was sounded. A group of bandit raiders was closing in on the village, and they would have to defend it as best as they could until the warrior-monks arrived. Taking a nunchaku and tonfa, provided by his father, Leon helped in the defense of his village. The villagers fought long and hard, and even with the help of the warrior-monks, were losing. It was then that something amazing happened. A beam of light seared through the night sky, and the entire village was lit as brilliant as day as the light entombed one of the warrior-monks. When the light lifted, the monk struck out with a vengeance, dropping one bandit per strike until none were left standing.

The monk explained that he had been chosen by the Unconquered Son, greatest of the Celestial Incarnae, and he was their priest. He said that with his Exaltation, the secrets of Essence manipulation that he sought through martial training were all open to him, and he could see the true form of martial arts now. Eventually, the man, known only by his monk name of Wanderer, left when the rest of his past-life’s circle appeared at their village. Envious of this man, Leon decided he had to leave the village to seek the truth about the ‘Supernatural’ martial arts that Wanderer spoke of. Thanking everyone in the village, Leon left them all, promising to return one day as a great martial artist who would make them all proud.

Leon has now traveled for two years, honing and refining his martial skills through his journeys. He still hasn’t managed to learn the secrets of Supernatural Martial Arts, but he is toiling with unlocking his Essence, and thus he is heading for Lookshy. He has heard that there are many Dragon-Blooded there, and that they may be able to teach him how to perform these martial arts, perhaps in return for military service.

Physical Description: Leon is not particularly tall, nor particularly short, standing at 5’10’’ of height. He weighs 155-lbs. His body is lithe and athletic, with a lean and muscular physique covered by bronze skin and usually light and airy clothing. He generally doesn’t wear shoes, preferring to travel barefoot to harden his feet. His hair is sun-bleached blonde, medium length and held spiked up by a bandanna. His face is handsome, even if slightly effeminate, with full lips and large, deep emerald green eyes. He grows little facial hair, and some have mistaken him for a pleasure slave before due to his choice in clothing.

(Note: Leon was bred and was being groomed to be a pleasure slave, that is why he was trained to sing the way he can and that is why he has such incredible appearance.)

Would be interesting if Skies bumped into Leon along the way ...
Hmmm... Heroic mortal and all that... might have to adjust his charms list quite a bit though, so he can reach Solar Hero Form and be considerd a sifu.

Hey figgin. A suitably odd question about Charms. Its says in the Core Book that Solars can create additional charms to Solar Hero Style. Are you going to allow assorted weird stuff like Parting Lotus Defense which would theoretically allow an Exalt to ignore all penalties to MA Parry DV?

If so, what are the rules for charm creation?
