Excersise in AC (Help the Two-Handed Fighter)

Valicor

First Post
Okay My character currently use's large weapon's, and my AC is lacking a few points behind the rest of the party.

I was looking at other options to boost my AC, for the cheaiest & easisets price.

I was thinking of a Animated Buckler to gain an additional 2 AC, but that would cost 9k.

I could go with natural armour +2 but for 8k

But the 3rd option I was thinking was using a none animated buckler. But the problem is I can't find away to maintain to ACbonus, while attacking. Is there any feats that my character could take to allow him not to loose his AC while atatcking.

Or is there any other items out there that could cost me 8-11k ranged and raise by AC by 2-3 points? (Besides a Ring of Protection, or Haste)

Thxs again for the help, guys

It's been debated on these boards about whether you could use a ring of force shield while weilding a 2-h-weapon... ie. turn ring off (free action), use weapon (std. or full round), turn ring back on (free action), move (5ft. etc. depending on time left in the round).

But that would be up to your DM...

Already got that.

Any feat's that I could take to fight two handed and maitain an AC bonus with buckler?

Nope. One of the things you give up for extra damage is the ability to use a shield. You can get an animated shield, or a ring of force shield. Of course that would be 9k or 8.k respectively. AC is veryimportant in the game, so it's hard to increase easily.

I think the animated shield is your best bet, but why waste the time with a buckler? A large shield would give you a better AC.

The other thing to do is harrass your cleric to cast magic vestment on you. Maybe pick up a partially charged wand and have him use it on you.

I used to use that item. But a player startign arguign that i couldn't drop it and reactivate it at the end of a round, as a free action. So the DM ruled I couldn't use it.

That happened about a week before the discussion started.

I was goign with Buckler for a few reasons.

In combat we are always asuemd to have our weapons out, even when suprised.

To have a large sheild otu, I wouldn't be able to have my weapon out. that would an an aditional action, to the Power Up Phase. So I went buckler, knowing it can be worn while you attack with a -1.

I haven't actually choosen a type yet, but I figured since there was feats that allow you to retain your ac bonus while attacking with a sheild, there would be one to let you maintain ac with a buckler, while attacking two handed.

Heh...
And I hope you nerf his idea about becoming a lich also. ;)

My thoughts on the force shield is that a Mage with a dagger in one hand and this ring in the other is allowed to drop the shield and cast a spell the re-activate the ring and still get all the AC benifits... why can't a two-handed fighter do something similar...
