The irony, of course, is that some players WILL make arguments like that. They're the same players who grab a miniature in each hand and trot them across the table making voices, like they're GI Joe figures.

Also don't forget that even though there is a penalty for the Listen skill while asleep, there is no penalty to the Spot skill. So, you can make a normal spot check while asleep per the RAW (I can't find the reference, but this is another Burlew reference, either 5 foot steps or OotS).

A lot of the arguments in the "Can Monks take INA" and "Chill touch" threads are like that. I should know; I was the author of some of them.

I haven't made voices with the minis lately, though. At least there's that.

Actually, the best DM I ever had at a Dragoncon game was the one who introduced me to the hilarity of trotting minis.
