Fighter/Wizard a good choice now! [3.5]

Chalk me up as noting that the EK is a good compromise as opposed to not ruining the game by changing the multi-class system, the XP system and the spell system all to fix fighter/wizards.

Cheers!
Chalk me up to believing that the Spellsword was a better compromise than the EK.
Personally, I never really thought there was anything to fix in the fighter/mage combo.

Chalky-chalk-chalk....

Anyway, I think it's good "for those kinds of people" that want to play a wiz/fighter. And by "those kinds of people" I'm referring to "those kinds of people" that also like to play the "weird classes" like druids and monks.....ie., those that can do cool things in very specific situations like when it's raining frogs under two full moons and the party finds themselves fighting storm giants on a 40-degree decline that is under a permanent grease spell.

But for the other times, I'd rather just play a cleric. It's practically the same thing as an EK and with the right domains and feats, you can really do almost anything.

I think that just because there's the Eldritch Knight that there's nothing wrong with the Spellsword or any one of the other ways of approaching a Fighter/Wizard through a prestige class.

Each deals with different aspects of the combination. The EK hasn't made the spellsword redundant by any means. It just appeals to different people.

Cheers!

I do see how its a shame that they needed to use prestige classes to patch a crack in the rules, but I do like the EK, plain vanilla that he is.

And there's more than one flavor, thank Gods. The spellsword and the bladesinger are certainly not obsolete.

I take the general agreement with Merric means everybody agrees with the Mystic Theurge as well?

Well were is my War Rogue, War Cleric, Druidic Priest, Skald...

So chalk me up to something as well

I think that in principle the Mystic Theurge is a good idea. I'm a little worried about the implementation, but it's not a major worry.

The War Rogue, War Cleric and Skald already exist as normal multi-class combinations. Rog/Ftrs are extremely popular and effective in my games; the Cleric is already a War Cleric, especially if you take the War domain, and the Skald sort of exists, though I do agree that a PrC that makes the Bard/Ftr more interesting could work quite well.

Other combinations are likely to appear in upcoming products, of course - the Complete Warrior being one such candidate, the Miniatures Handbook another, and Unearthed Arcana a third.

Cheers!

Yep, yep, yep... comming from someone who painfully transferred their 2E ftr/wiz into 3E and spent months being a frigging gimp and then. Now sort of fumbling around in 3.5 trying not to look too clueless and pretend not to cry everytime some monster goes "meh!" as spells rebound off its hide uselessly because my caster level sucks nuts...

I have only one word to describe my feelings.

HATE!
