Force Orb: Secondary attacks on a miss?

I'd hope the caster has the option to aim for the "square" at the cost of only doing splash damage to all involved, but that might require the DM to ok.

I don't think I would allow it. It says Target: One creature or object. So I don't think a square is a valid target.

Also, it says Hit:2d8+5 force damage, make secondary attack.

Therefore the secondary attack does not occur unless there is a hit initially.

I don't see why a section of the floor or ground couldn't be treated as an object.

Maybe, but to me it reeks of cheese.

But, as long as the players can deal with the fact that the monsters will be cheese shopping as well I could allow it.

It's like aiming a rocket launcher at someones feet in a FPS. You don't get the megadamage of a direct hit, but the explosive splash is still signifigant.

No need for the cheese...Just target a nearby rock or pillar. Objects are likely to have low Reflex defense and they've said that combats will involve much more in the way of interesting terrain features.

And it's not like the ground or ceiling have high Reflexes either :p
I mean, we're not playing WoW! Nor a boardgame! I CAN target the ground if I WANT to!
