Let's talk background!
The Sunless Citadel adventure starts out in the small town of Oakhurst. It's kind of a backwater, off the beaten path, sort of place. So....how do five would-be adventurers converge on such a place at the same time?
If you said....MERCHANT CARAVAN....you're the grand prize winner!
Yep, you've signed on as guards (or maybe just hitched a ride to get from A to B, whatever fits) with the Aslevus Gort trading company. Master Gort sells diverse (though mundane) wares ranging from carpets to spices to glassware, from his four wagons. It's not likely he'll find a lot of trade in a small burg like Oakhurst, but it's a decent place to stop off, grab an ale, and maybe...just maybe...pick up a hook or two that might be of interest to an aspiring treasure-hunter/thrill-seeker/do-gooder.
And the caravan trip so far has been so boring. Nary a bandit or brigand in sight since you started out. So, it's allowed plenty of down time to get to know your fellow travellers...feel free to jump in with some role-playing, story-swapping, history-sharing, etc. Best hurry, though....Oakhurst isn't far away.
