Dragon Warrior, etc).

We make sure that we use it at the appropriate times, so that it never gets repetitive (along with a 300-disc CD player).

Okay, dude.

In all seriousness, if you actually have the temerity to bring a WEAPON to my game, you better be prepared to use it running. From the cops. That I called. If I wanted to game with heavily armed sociopaths, I'd run a Cyberpunk 2020 LARP.

Dude, we game at his house. he doesn't NEED to bring any weapons, his bedroom is filled with em.

IMHO Queen is king.

FLASH! AAAHA! SAVIOR OF THE UNIVERSE!

The Flash Gordon or Highlander soundtracks are the only Queen CDs I'd consider bringing with me to game.

I also like Brotherhood of the Wolf, Linkin Park(especially Meteora, of which I've got an advance copy from work), Manowar, Rhapsody, VG soundtracks(especially Castlevania), and many others(Good to see another Fatal Fury fan on the boards, BTW).

I'll also recommend Conan the Barbarian. In addition:

The Planets by Gustav Holst has just about any theme you'd need

Capriccio Espagnol by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is good for Arab themed games (yes, I know it's called Espagnol, but Spain was under Moorish rule for 700+ years...)

Braveheart for Celtic style stuff (LotR works well for this too)

Anything Aaron Copland for Old West games (Deadlands)

The Saint soundtrack is lovely for modern-era punk or spy thriller games

And yes, the Crouching Tiger, yadda yadda soundtrack is good for oriental style games (or Exalted!)

The Omen soundtrack is great for horror games (Call of Cthulu)

And the Gladiator soundtrack is also awesome for generic ass-kicking music

Depends on game and group I play with. Some groups just want the radio on...no real care for atmosphere. Other groups require soundtracks. Currently LoTR is popular

Classical music and monk chants are often useful.

I definately agree with Sixchan, arwyn and Allanon that video and computer game soundtracks can be quite useful; they often contain a variety of songs accessing a wide spectrum of emotons that don't exist in other types of music CDs. In addition to those mentioned above, Vandal Hearts I and II are quite good as well as Baldur's Gate II.

Depending on the RPG, any music might be useful, except possibly those with lyrics. Sometimes it can get quite confusing mixing lyrics with trying to listen to what is going on in the game.
