Geek Confessional Thread 2024

I like Pedro Pascal fine, but I do not understand how he has become the IT actor. I mean, he's okay, but there are tons of better or cooler or more handsome actors of similar age.
I think a lot has to do with his willingness to be utterly fearless and tenacious about certain issues that are very much in the current zeitgeist.

This is true. He is everywhere probably because he is willing to do questionable material (WW84) as well as great material (LoU). But when I see he is going to play Reed Richards and is in the new Galdiator I think: aren't there better fits? And, yes, there are, especially for Reed (Krazynski if you want nice guy Reed, Jude Law if you want a-hole Reed).

From the latter, I cribbed the character’s staying as true as possible to his pre-embrace moral compass, and using a large muscle car with a big trunk as his main patrol vehicle and primary residence. The car also had a bike rack on it which held his neigborhood-level patrol vehicle- a mountain bike with cards in the spokes and other noisemakers to create a mosquito-worthy “buzz” when he rode it.
(Emphasis mine…DUH!)

Driving home today, I saw something I’ve seen thousands of times before: a small RV. Small enough to not be a navigational hazard on residential streets.

As soon as I saw this one, though, I thought about Major Mosquito and how he slept in the trunk of his car. WHY? Because that’s what the main character on Forever Night did. But because of his bicycle rack, his vehicle would have stood out as atypical among older muscle cars.

But an RV? Those things are practically indistinguishable and innocuous on so many ways. Almost an automobile analogy to beige unless you’re stuck behind one. Definitely less conspicuous on many levels to a muscle car with a bike rack.

If I ever revisit the Major or an analogous PC, I may have to opt for an RV as his vehicle of choice. The bike can be inside, out of sight just like his dirtbox. It could easily stow his smallish arsenal. He could have a fridge for storing…stuff.

Besides, as off-kilter as the Major was, a RV somehow feels more appropriate than the car from a supernatural action show.

I just started playing DnD online. I joined in with a group. We're negotiating what game we want to play and rules. I'm realizing that this isn't the game for me. Thinking about ghosting because I find the DM off putting. I know it's a fairly typical thing on the interrnets, but ghosting leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Come up with some excuse and let them know. It’s always better than just disappearing. Being honest is best, but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way.

Yeah, best not to ghost the DM and other players. Besides it being rather low thing to do, I find karma has a way of making you run into folks again. The Internet is never as big nor anonymous as we think it is.

Just say that you overestimated your ability to commit to campaign and you need to cut back for a while.
