D&D General GenCon TV: Celebrating D&D

When talking about 4E back in the day, they openly discussed being influenced by MMOs. That video games in general took a lot of ideas from D&D and that of course that had come full circle and they were now borrowing ideas from MMOs. Whether that was a good thing or not is a matter of preference and opinion.

That’s splitting some pretty fine hairs there, nuance or not.
Not even close. If their remit was to make 4E “familiar to WoW players,” they succeeded. If their remit was to copy WoW, they failed miserably.

From what I can tell, this comes down to giving every class something interesting to do every round of combat. Oh the horror. Centering combat, which was a mainstay for many, many groups from the beginning. And party roles. Which WoW copied from D&D in the first place. That’s incredibly thin.
