Gods in Wizards???

Yes! Validation from a site host! I'm not being mean, I'm just exercising my freedom of choice.

With regard to clowns and mimes... I don't have any phobia about them, but I do find them quite annoying, sometimes...

For those of you who've met alot of my characters, you'd see I don't have them going around saying "I'm Holier than thou!". A good example is Kritch. He would rather hide under a table than sit on a chair or barstool, unless he's doing so with some one taller than him, heck, this guy turns pale if someone sits at a table he's under, even if it's just some 14-year-old farm hand (which I would love to see more of in the CRT).

Heck, I have at least... (let's see... kritch... jared... Jared... Jared... kritch... kritch) TWO CHARACTERS that are completely incapable of thought speak of any kind, unless the person is capabale of reading minds. Sure they can close their thoughts, but realisiticly, they can't do it often. Kritch simply refrains from thinking, and jared doesn't really care, seeing as how he grills people about their lives so he can turn them into songs and write books about them....

All this talk of clowns reminds me of a play we had to do way back in first grade at school, myself and about 40 or more others.... I won't say anymore for the benefit of those who dislike clowns, as I don't have a problem with them, but still find the memory disturbing. :twitch:

I hated that school....

But more on topic, of course it boils down to keeping the power levels within reason for the setting. Actual deities just being thrown in randomly as characters doesn't always work [though as has been said, there are exceptions to every rule], especially in Juxta due to the reduction in power. And in Oerth, wouldn't the Oerthian deities take notice of such a being and do something about it? Especially if these foriegn deities were frequenting a place like the 'Roads, where various beings of varrying power levels congregate [And no, that's not a suggestion to have Pelor or whoever show up and fight off these forieng deities, that would be bad.]. Just my outlook on the logic of that aspect [And clearly a character like Moondrye from the description provided fits into that sort of logic quite well].

:whatsthis Goldfish people you say? Hmm, maybe with fishbowl helmets that allow them to breathe outside of water? What would happen if they saw a little stone castle somewhere? Would they feel the need to explore it and spend an abundance of time just staring at things? :D

*blink*

Thank you to everyone who had kind words about Moondyre. It makes me feel good to know that she is recieved so well and that the way I carry out her storyline is noticed and appreciated! Makes me feel all warm and tingly!!:)

andion_isurand has not yet seen a paragon, pseudonatural, insectile, blooded, air element, fire element, half-giant, half-fiend, half-dragon, vampiric, legendary dire weretiger, one-million-year-old, 7-foot tall, chosen drow archlich abomination 'anti-magister', that is in fact a greater deity possessing power enough to knock Lord Ao from his throne and smite everything else in existance with a mere thought...

andion_isurand ...but won't because he only came to have a drink and act all mysterious.

andion_isurand then remembers this is not the Crossroads Tavern.

Yes, hearing the same drums being beat all the time can wear on the minds of others. We can only hope that those who beat on such drums will eventually lose interest.

I also want to add to Reesa's list of ideas by suggesting that more characters try using the doors of the tavern to come and go as opposed to winking in and out of existance surrounded by uber manifestions of overtly displayed power every single time.

"Corellon, honey, how about we go have a drink at this quaint little mortal tavern where the food and people are really beneath us and our godly standards."

Somehow, I have a hard time seeing a god walk into a tavern and start socialising with the locals.

And I find the best parts of playing the character, are the faults.. I've only had one epic level character, yet she was a paranoid, insecure, overly-self-righteous and overly-proud gal who hated any one to get the better of her, but spent the entire time trying to hide it. And Rhane is just... well, a bag of faults with a little sweetener thrown in. She's not incredibly intelligent, though she IS quite powerful, doesn't think it and doesn't let her head rule the situation.... instead, she lets fear or her emotion get the better of her and she usually ends up the worst off in a fight..

Stupid elf. But that's what makes her a BELIEVEABLE character and just so much fun to play.

The only problem I find, is trying to create a character that has a really big ego, puts on a front and is very self-centred.. "Oh, I'm so wonderful, I could beat you to a pulp!" sorta thing.. Because from what I've seen, other players tend to take this as automatic god-moding. Blargh.

My train of thought left me. I should go sleep now.

OH! And as for fads, I've seen (in no particular order) angels, fae, devils, demons, fey'ri and half-fiends, tieflings, elves, fae-dragons, drow, normal dragons, half dragons and children pop-up all at once.. (respectively.)

Actually my character Moondyre had no knowledge she was a god when she was created. She was sheilded from it and fully believed she was just learning magics like anyone else. She did not figure out that the only people she saw from her family were very powerful people with amazing ablilites. To her they were Uncle Reorx, Cousin Chemosh, Aunt Mishakal. She thought everyone had a five headed dragon in their families, she honestly was child-like in that respect.

But she grew up surrounded by them, and normal people. Clerics of her mother, elves, kenders, gnomes, etc. She walked with the locals and thought it was her blue skin (her Irda avatar) that people shy'd away from her at various times. In her true form she is similar to her mother. But again she had grown up around various people and thought Dragons of all kinds had a place in the world.

She only a few years back let out who and what she was. Why she comes to a mortal tavern is an easy one. She wants to feel like she did growing up, not having a world upon her shoulders, not worrying of people being nice to her and fearful of her. She likes it when people become nasty, talk back to her, etc because she is finally allowed to verbally spar with folks. She can learn things from their feelings and become a better mother so to speak over all she watches over.

Sometimes the people with the least amount of power and knowledge can teach those with everything going for them so much about themselves. And to be able to sit back for an hour in a tavern away from the world she came from is a peace for her, she learns, teaches a few, and can just be one of the regulars without worry of the politics of her world.

Well for me it seems more often then not the real problem is not that people are god, but the fact they advertise it far and wide, in fact I will go as far to say that this is the problem with all beyond a certain power level/type characters is that some people shout far and wide they are super strong tough cool characters that demands attention.

Having played a few "god" characters myself (zouron and then later alex silvermoon) I was rarely actually given any heat for playing such, especially zouron was successful even though he acted most of the time totally alien manipulating and threatening to most people around him, especially those that did socialize. The fact I didn't get a lot of flaming with him I believe is that I neither kept shouting out to the room that he in the real of a god power wise, of course on the other hand he never denied it either.

I must say that yes he was chosen due to his undefeatability, but he has also provided some of the most memorable moments on this site for me, way more then most of my more human characters.

Of course the question most ask is "why does a god come here???" well there are other gods, angels, people who changes the face of the worlds they are from, so why not? besides there is no rule that in all games that a god can only manifest one form in one place at a time, so they might be 10 or 20 or more then one can understand places at once.

Now I wouldn't argue for that everyone should make up a god (the gods knows that is why I mostly took out zouron), however I will say don't judge a character just because they say they are gods, like moondyre, some are played human, others might be played rather inhuman (my character zouron) others are just played silly (no example given :p) and it is those you should strike at rather then all in my (not so) humble opinion.

Of course gods do stand in sharp contrast to the more and more dominate desire of the ISRP people using the boards that all characters should be flawed regular john does (this is simplified of course), but just remember that not everyone likes these types of heroes nor to play them, heck some just want to be themselves in some cool versions of how they envision themselves on site and there need to be a room for all. If you really burn for the more silly types to vanish tell them it, help them understand why they are alienating themselves, maybe they aren't from their crowd maybe they are, but the ones causing the trouble are the ones to address IMHO.

well enough babble from the Z today ;)

BTW moondyre was always a cool character :) and I could say a lot of other nice things about said character (but I wouldn't).

Yah right Zouron, there have been some Gods played wonderfully and I guess when I started this is was not to put down all those that play. I could say the same of any race or being, vamps, angels whatever, they can all be played wonderfully, just so so or horribly. I guess why I posted was I remember a time when making such a big deal of being a god was frowned upone more just like proclaiming you sucked blood was.

Times are changing and i've seen some amazing comments and advice in this thread. All I can say is we all make choices and we can all make just as many mistakes. I know i've made plenty and I truely wonder if char's like Pandora, Willa...even Juliana if they have made the impack that i thought they did.

Anyways, enough rambling from me!

As I said.. it's all a matter of how a character is played.

Whatever or whomever they be, so be it.. I'm not one to limit creativity.. but so long as it's well played, and well-thought out.. I'll be glad to see it around, and to interact with those folks.

Righto.. * goes back to wandering aimlessly*
