Long rumoured, the Henry Cavill fronted Warhammer 40K TV show is apparently officially a go at Amazon.

Amazon acquired the rights 2 years ago to produce a TV show based on Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 game. Deadline is reporting, and Cavill himself confirming, that the series is now officially in production.

WH40K is the most popular miniature wargame in the world. Originally published in 1987, it is on its 10th edition. Set in the far future, it mixes fantasy tropes with sci-fi in a grim, dark universe. It has spawned multiple tabletop roleplaying games, such as Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, and more, the current lineup being publishing by Cubicle 7.

According to the deal made 2 yeasr ago, Amazon had until December 2024 to mutually agree on “creative guidelines for the films and television series to be developed by Amazon”. There is no showrunner yet. The show will also be produced by Vertigo Entertainment.

To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer models over 30 years ago....the Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey!

My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we've been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though—more to come in time!

Warhammer is one of those games that I've always wanted to get into, but just struggle to commit to. I already spend enough money on Magic: The Gathering.. And these minis aren't cheap. That's also only considering the monetary investment. I don't really have the time, nor the desire to get into painting on top of my other obligations and hobbies.
I'm saying this as a Warhammer player. Unless you're someone who likes to paint, I'd avoid the game. The game itself isn't really that great, and when I play it's more a pageant for my painted miniatures and an excuse to just hang out than it is for the sake of playing a good game.

That's honestly been the biggest turn off for me.. I don't like painting. And I know myself. I'd get ADHD brained about it, and spend 48 hours straight painting half the army, and then the hyperfocus would wear off and I wouldn't touch them again.

I got a bye round the other night at Magic so I walked over and was chatting with the Warhammer guys.. One of which was running a team of the Marines painted up in Irish green and orange. So I think that tracks with your pageant comment lmao.

Regardless.. The guys at the shop seem pretty chill and I'd imagine one of them would loan me an army to try it out some day without me having to invest in it.

So I don't really watch video, but I know Henry Cavill played superman and the witcher, and everyone seems to love him. How come he's not playing those roles any more? Just bad luck? I'm confused why he's not the same as the captain america guy or iron man, with like a multi year thing going for him
I would really frame that more as ridiculously good luck on the part of RDJ and Chris Evans. That's really not the norm in Hollywood. Everyone is a contactor and you are hired for a project or specified-duration contract -- so a movie or set number of seasons of a show (if the show persists). What Cavill has experienced is much more the norm. For example, Gal Gadot doesn't have any more Wonder Woman work lined up. For that matter, Jeremy Renner might have a cameo in the next Marvel show or something, but otherwise interacts with Marvel only through residuals.

Note also that, as much as nerds love Cavill (for, as mentioned, being "one of us"), they haven't exactly rushed to the box office for him. Most of the DC movies he was in made a profit, it's pretty clear that continuing the DC cinematic Universe as-is wasn't going to be a breakaways success. So the people writing checks, Cavill, and the fans are all moving on to other things. This isn't exactly unusual (think Mark Hamill, Bruce Campbell, and Cary Elwes).

Alot if fans don't play the game. Video games, novels, wiki, pop culture references.

I play Stella's and there's lots of WH40k references along with Trek, Star Wars/Trek etc.

His Superman films didn't do as well as planned. Plus he has an unfortunate habit of dating teenagers, which is not a great look.

Don't forget like 4 different ttrpg's (and that's not including Warhammer Fantasy).
You got:
Dark Heresy
Rogue Trader
Black Crusade
