Theremin spent the evening frolicking in the town, playing his lute and making new friends. He kept his ears open for any rumors or anything out of the ordinary, especially concerning Irene and her family. His night was uneventful, and he left his room quietly in the morning, trying not to wake the pretty maiden he had met the night before. Maya, Mara, Mella, he couldn't quite remember her name, but she was indeed so nice and sweet. Coming down, he plucked his lute, as a general greeting to all, and headed towards to Mindra and Coriana's table with a smile.

"Good morning ladies, I trust you had a good night's rest! Do I ever have an interesting story to tell you!"

He then lowers his voice, and proceeds to tell them about the discussion he had with Ghaves, and his idea of helping the nobility. "Think of the fame and glory if we succeed!" He smiles to both ladies.

OOC: I seem to recall that the essence of dreamlily in higher doses produces amnesia, am I right? If so, it could be a nice way to take care of Curdy without hurting him.

“I didn’t think you were one to think so small,” Liam said to Theremin as he sat his hat on the table, looking exhausted, but in a satisfied way. “We’ve just started on our adventure, and you’re willing to settle down already? Or were you planning to take her with us? What about the boy? He may have objections to your advances.”

Theremin smiles at Liam: "Who said anything about bringing her with us? Fortunately, nobility can bring flexibility in one's marital affairs. Besides, I just want to help her and her family; it's a matter of honor. As for the boy, indeed, he will need to be handled, but perhaps the essence of dreamlily can help"

Liam sat forward, “Let me get this straight. You want to marry the girl, but take no responsibility for her. To do so, you want to drug a young boy enough to take his memory away, also getting him hooked on the very addictive drug, all so you can have a wedding night and use her nobility to further your own status. Have I got my facts right?”

"Hmmm, good point, I had forgotten about the addictive aspects of the drug. And regarding your other statements, I am sorry to say that they don't represent my idea. I proposed the wedding to extend my family's crest to Irene, thereby offering her some protection. This is but a detail, and it is irrelevant if I am the noble that marries her, although this could definitely be interesting. The main goal here is to find a way to protect, and if possible, restore her noble status in these lands. To protect her standing, she must not breed with a commoner. This is why we must find a way to get rid of the boy. However, do note that I am not proposing to harm him, hence my thought to use the essence of dreamlily, but perhaps there are other ways."

“Listen close, my not so pointy eared friend,” Liam said, his words low but hard as nails as he set a strange book on the table, “From this point forward, consider both the boy, Curdy, and that poor girl under my protection. Feel free to try to court her, once she has recovered from her addicted stupor. Use that charm you so often exude to try to win her heart. Such is any man’s right. But you will no longer continue to discuss and barter for her future without her knowledge. And if anything happens to the boy, no matter how small, you will learn what it means when my kind are called Children of Paladin.”

OOC: Love the RP between Liam and Theremin :D As for essence of dreamlily, the source I got it from didn’t mention amnesia, but thinking back to the one novel I read that had someone severely addicted, I can certainly see that as a byproduct. But Liam is right, it’s very addictive. Fun fact, Bayar, the German company famous as the “inventor” of aspirin, was also the inventor of heroin, and actually shelved development of aspirin for a time when they discovered and marketed heroin as a “safer” alternative to addictive codeine, marketing it as non-addictive. It was hugely popular, though within a year, the addictive properties became obvious.

Mindra was a bit too far away to get a really good look at the box. It seemed highly decorated with paint. Torban set it on the bar next to his slate as he got the merchant half-elf her hot toddy.

The bald half-elf merchant Torban had referred to as Ideli turned, cupping her hot toddy in her long fingers, and studied the group bent over and whispering at the table.

Torban came over to the group’s table. “Breakfast? Drinks?” he asked Theremin, Liam, and Coriana.

OOC: Yes, I like this RP too, and tglassy, you're really doing a good job of staying in character. If ever somebody asks me what a CG aligment stands for, I will use this exchange as an example. Theremin, being LN, of course thinks a bit differently ;-)
The only think I want to avoid at all costs is to "break" the party by having too much tension (it has happened to me before, and it really sucks), so I'll make a point of ensuring party harmony while maintaining the RP

Theremin looks at Liam in the eyes "I commend you for remaining cordial, even with your not so subtle threat!", he says, smiling, then turns away and continues plucking nonchalantly on his lute "so it seems that our friend, and brother in arms Liam is not to interested in the stratagems of the nobility. Fair enough. We have fought side to side, and I will be honored to continue to do so as you have showed yourself to be a worthy companion." Looking back at him in the eyes, Theremin continues "I would appreciate, my friend Liam, that you speak to me perhaps will a bit less agression. I was sharing my toughts with all of you, and meant no disrespect. I would hope that you would do the same, in a civil manner." Goig back to looking at his lute, he continues "However, and this is only a recommendation for you to consider, it would likely be in you benefit to avoid making threats, direct or implied, to Helveki nobility in the future."

Feeling inspired, and wanting to reconcile, he proposes "Would you be open to testing the loyalty of the Curdy boy towards Irene. For a small fee that I will gladly disburse, we can have a few ladies of the night approach him with a spicy proposition. This of course would help us know where his heart lies. This path would not offend the "protection" you are giving him" He looks at his companions for feedback.

OOC: @KahlessNestor, please let me know if I am taking things too much off course

To Torban, he offers "By all means, yes please to both!

OOC: I think Liam was mostly angered at the prospect of getting rid of the boy for no other reason than he was in the way. And yes, CG is the alignment I most often play. I wouldn’t want it to split the party, but I feel that Liam would for the sake of what he perceives to be an innocent. I think he likes Theremin, if thinking him a little bit of a fop, but I can’t see Liam going on with any kind of treachery like that. If I were playin Ryder, my Rogue, he’d have been Theremin’s wingman and poor Curdy would wind up your best man at the wedding. Buuuut Ryder isn’t here.

“Theremin, I am but a humble acolyte from a monastery. But I understand how these people think. Seeing as you grew up in court, you may not understand, so let me enlighten you. To them, these so called “Stratagems of Nobility” are nothing more than an excuse to make treachery and underhanded actions culturally acceptable. But this girl, regardless of her heritage, is a country girl, with country values. She will respond to directness. She is poor, or at least relative to your family. You have much to offer her.

“But if you do anything that she could perceive as manipulative, if you set up Curdy to fall, she may decide not to choose Curdy because of his weakness, but she will despise you for your part in his fall. You will have made an enemy of her. So much so it wouldn’t be beyond reason for her to speak out a rival to your house and marry them just to make your life more difficult.

“Therefore, if you truly desire to wed this girl, you should be a better man and state your intentions to her, plainly. Let her know of her heritage. Let her know the consequences of marrying below her station, and the benefits of marrying into your house. I guarantee you, you will have a better chance at winning her over this way. If Curdy objects, which he no doubt will, allow him to be the aggressor. With your skill, I doubt he could hurt you. Show mercy to him, which will endear you to her and show him as unstable. If he peacefully convinced her to go with him, accept the loss and move on. Surely there are other noble women out there you could wed.

“Be a better man than these schemes, Theremin. Be known as a straightforward man who says what he means and people will trust you, and put their trust in you. Be just like every other nobleman, and they will only trust that you are just like every other nobleman.”

[sblock=Liam, the night before]
Liam lay in the bed, the priestess asleep next to him. This was not how he had expected the night to go, but he wasn’t going to complain. Having lived in a monastery, he wasn’t the type to jump into bed with the first girl to flirt with him, but these last few weeks had been...intense.

Too bad his head still ached.

He rolled over, sitting up in the bed. And rubbing his eyes.

“Is the pain worse?” Came the angels voice in his head.

“What is wrong?” He said, for something surely was.

“Your Mind was not made to handle what angelic eyes can show you, not constantly at least.”

“Will it get better?”

“No,” came the reply. “In fact, it will likely get worse.

“Do something,” Liam said, almost whimpering as the pain reached a crescendo. “I can’t handle this much longer.”

The angel was quiet for a while as Liam suffered in silence.

Light began to coalesce on the corner table, looking like a thousand thousand stars swirling around each other. They condensed and in a flash, a book appeared in their place.

Liam moved to the book, the air cool on his skin.

“This...is very dangerous.” The angel said.

Liam reached for the book, feeling the power it emanated, a power he was specifically attuned to.

“This book contains the the vast stores of knowledge about angel kind, specifically Aasimar. All the secrets of angelic power, as well as histories and codes, heraldry and the structure of the heavens lie in this book. It can teach you much, though you won’t understand most of it right now.”

Liam gingerly lifted the fine leather cover, which was covered in intricate embossed shapes he vaguely recognized as angelic letters. In the center was the symbol of Paladin, i laid with gold. As he lifted the cover, the inner pegs almost seemed to be made of gold, and the intricate letters, diagrams and images were written in silver ink. To Liam’s whey’s, magic danced from this Tome like fireflies in the night.

“How does his help my headache?” Liam asked, in awe of the gift but in too much pain to fully appreciate it.

“Near the middle of the book is a very simple spell. It will show you how to block some of your site, and how to receive it again at will, for shorter periods of time. You will retain your ability to see in the dark. This should enough to stop the pain.”

Liam turned to the page indicated, finding the spell. “Simple” was relative, but after a few minutes, he deciphered the spell.

Moments later, the magic he had seen flowing through the world faded to nothing, and with it, his pain. He sighed deep in his soul as he realized it was gone.

“What else is in this book?” He whispered as he turned a page.

“Liam?” He heard behind him. He turned to see the priestess had awakened. She beckoned to him. He closed the book. Studying could wait for the morning. [/sblock]
