I don't know how Looper is doing it for you guys. He stunk as a Met, but he's looking like the Ace over there!
Frankly, its Dave Duncan and his coaching staff. How many other "dirt-bag", "has-been" pitchers have the Cards turned into at least serviceable starters and relievers over the years?
Look at last season, Weaver had been in so many uniforms before the Cardinals took him in and re-shaped him that he was thinking of retiring early. How much did he get on his contract this season? I know a lot of teams purchase line-ups 'out of the box'; one reason baseball is a religion in St Louis and that we stick by our team through the lean years is mostly because we've learned that being patient has led to some very loyal players building a great team...eventually.
I have lived on the east coast for 13 years now in the Baltimore area and never in my life have I seen such a fickle bunch of 'fans'. One minute their team is a group of hereos, fighting the good fight, the next their a bunch of bums that couldn't win their way out of a wet paper bag. And with the exception of the Yankees and Red Sox, the OVERALL loyalty of fans on the east coast is pretty bad. (A generalization so before you say otherwise, please look around and re-evaluate.)
My biggest loss since moving here is going to a baseball game and enjoying myself, having the fans appreciate BOTH teams on the field and saving their displeasure for really rowdy players and the umpires.

I have to go to minor league games to have fun and they are starting to get too expensive anymore ($150 for tickets and food at a minor league game is shameful, I barely pay that for a pro game). Sorry didn't mean to get off on a tangent. Ready for flames and arrows, I'm sure I deserve them.
