Also, while it is the weakest option. It's not exactly unplayable. You're not going to get your party killed or anything.

Actually, on page one it is explicitly stated, that the weapon mastery section is reprinted only for reference and is due for revision in a future update...

so instead of ranting, reading helps.

Here's the fix that flex needs. If using a 2handed weapon say greataxe or a longsword with 2 hands, get plus 1 to damage. Add that onto the mastery and it's perfect. This means there is still a reason to swing a longsword 2hded.

5E is easy enough where you can wander around in padded armor, with a turkey drumstick as your weapon, and spend half your rounds eating it, and no one's going to die. That's a pretty low bar to clear.
