Never said they weren’t great actors. Never said they never did some great films. Never said they never got awards.

I DID say that at the time of casting for LotR, none of the main actors were considered A listers, and none had been the leading draw to blockbuster movies (what an A lister is defined as) in years. That’s a true statement.
I think I get what you're trying to say, but there were a ton of recognizable faces in LoTR even at the time.

Sean Astin had been acting since the 80s. Elijah Wood for like 10 years. Ian Mckellen was Magneto, the year before LoTR came out. John Rhys Davies was in Indiana Jones. Sean Bean in Goldeneye and Patriot Games. Christopher Lee had been in movies forever. Liv Tyler was just in Armageddon.

I guess it's missing a Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, or Robin Williams?

He's a good actor but being honest I don't think to many people get to excited about a movie with him in it.

By that I mean "yeah this movie has High Grant in it wow".

I'm sure he has his fans though. He's good but not that exciting.

Any movie he's in are you really seeing it because of him or is he just in it? He's a good actor though perhaps even excellent.
TBH, there aren't a ton of movies where I'm seeing it because of the actor. I kinda don't think that's really a thing anymore with streaming and the resultant content flood along with the birth of the megafranchises.

But to your point, he's been good enough that it I see his name later in the cast, I'll give the movie a chance I wouldn't give it otherwise.

Yeah these days it's about the franchises for the most part.

Alot of actors outside established franchises their movies don't do that well.

There's a few exceptions like The Rock sort of the last of the megastars.

TV shows it's a bit opposite. I care more about them in regards to whose in them.

Yeah, the Rock would have been one of the exceptions, but it's not really like people are going to see his movies because of his acting... He's just so darn likeable.

Sure, my post was humorous in nature.

I could not stop seeing Agent Smith.

I have very little expectations for this film. I'm pretty indifferent to it, in all honesty. But I don't think Hugh Grant is a negative at all. Obviously, the script will play a huge part there, but if he has something to work with, I think he's capable.

My last post was a pic of him as a tribal cannibal from the far future in Cloud Atlas. In that same film he also played a slave trader from the 1700s, a corrupt insurance executive in the 1970s, a traitorous brother in the early 2000s, and a mid-level bureaucrat in a corrupt future society that thrives on suffering.

That's five villainous roles all in one film, each to a different degree and with different traits and mannerisms. Most of which you may not even realize they're him, unless you know to look.

Pretty sure he can play whatever kind of villain the character is going to be.
