Hunters of Dune

Well it's out, and my local library had a copy of it (I love the library) ...

anyone else read this yet? I liked it, but I don't know if I'd call it a classic like the original ... and the ending was either a perfect leave-off point or a truley annoying cliff-hanger. Can't decide yet, but I wish it was a more definitive ending.

Machines??? ARGH!!!! ... stoopid machines. I have no idea how humans will deal with them this time ... and the gholas just seemed useless at this point. They it left off is that there could be a whole other trilogy coming about ... which might annoy me too, b/c it would be a combination of Dune and the Machine Crusade. Oh well, I'll still read them

Hadn't heard of it, but then I've borrowed every Dune book I've read and I've only gotten through God Emperor of Frank's books so far.

Is this based on the manuscript Frank was working on that was mentioned way back when in one of Kevin and Brian's prequels?

yes, it is.

After God Emperor, things just get wierder imo ... still worth reading though

Cool, I've been wondering when that would happen, what with it being mentioned in the first prequel. Wonder why they felt compelled to write six more books first.

Oh, I plan to. I just have large reading backlog and things tend to go on mood, so it's taking a while.

one of my students pointed something out to me ... there will be an 8th book, Sandworms of Dune.

so there's one more to look forward too as well as the possibility of a short story collection/anthology

I've read it. VERY interesting. An early draft of Dune is included...very pulpish in feel. No where NEAR the depth of the final novel. Still, most of the characters are there as well as the worms and spice. A must read for the Dune enthusiast....if I can sound like an advert for a second.

I checked it out from the library too. Funny how people think alike.
This is the first book of a Trilogy, according to the list of books in the front of the book.

According to the Foreword in the book, they wanted to write the six "prequels" to help flesh out the story to come. The book is pretty much written in the same style and manner as the prequels, so if you don't like their writing style so much, you probably won't like this book either.

Me, I didn't like it so much that I would go out and buy it (much like the prior trilogies), but I'll go get the next two from the Library.
