D&D 5E I am not ready to ready the ready action...

I'd probably see it used about once every session or two, on average. It's usually the more tactically minded players that use it.

Personally I used it last time I was in the DM chair... Cloud Giant has picked up an unconscious PC (one of two); he dangles the dying PC over the edge of a huge drop and says to the other two PC's, something like, "OK, let's discuss, or this one dies"... I then readied an action to drop the PC if anyone attacked the giant. Of course, you can probably guess what happened next.... said player is creating a new PC.

Off topic: did that player have any opinions, about the choices of fellow players and choices of fellow PCs?

No, he was ready to change PC's anyway; it has his girlfriend who tried to save him, but that's another story and was a moment of comedy, followed by a moment of role-play as the Tortle flew a mile through the air, trying to roll a 20 and open her eyes for one final time so she could try and see her homeland. FWIW I'm planning to remind my players that I don't care about what some people might call "meta-gaming", as not just here but a couple of times earlier I look back and feel that it was too much "everyone sits around waiting for their turn", instead of a more co-operative approach to a tough fight.

Anyway, the moral of that story is that different play styles don't always line up too well - for example I'm pretty sure it's only about half the people I know who would ever even really think of using a Readied action, others just prefer a more direct / simple approach.
