I have PHB I

I can't believe what I just read. A 1st level wizard can get more than 1 spell per day with a high ability score?!

Man, what a clear example of power creep. If you can't survive with 1 magic missile per day, then you don't know how to play. And now there's no reason not to have a character without an 18 in the ability.

Apparently it ties into the loss of THAC0 that Castellan mentioned above. Apparently everything adds now, and no subtractions happen at all. They must be trying to market the game to kindergarteners- I mean really, if you can add, you can subtract, right?

What I don't like about the AC is that it doesn't stop at 30 like it should. That's what the old -10 would translate to in this new system, but nothing in the book says it's limited to that now! I suppose we're going to see the new version of Lolth with some absurd number like... I don't know, 40? I mean, that would have been -20 before. Except that they were smarter and limited things in the old editions.

Seriously, totally broken.

feats? whats that?
Feats expand the weapon proficiency slots. So, you can choose to become proficient in a weapon, or take a feat to get something else, like +1 with a weapon that you are already proficient.

So, how can a character take feats if they need to use the feat slots for weapon proficiencies? Well, they went back to 1st edition method of characters automatically becoming proficient with a number of weapons at 1st level.

My concern is that the fighter can take around 20 feats at 20th level. There is nothing to stop him from taking Toughness which grants him +3 HP in all of those slots and becoming an unstoppable monster. Which I think every fighter player is going to do, I'm afraid.

Oh, and check this out. You can choose to "refocus" your inititave so that you get the best inititave for the rest of the combat. I can see it now, at the beginning of combat EVERYONE will always refocus their inititave.

Even worse, they're now letting wizards shoot crossbows. Dumbest idea ever. I can't remember a single movie I've seen or book I've read where the wizard weilds a crossbow.

And worse than that, with one of those feat thingies -- any character can use any weapon. Clerics wielding swords, man -- it's heresy! I'm totally boycotting this new edition!

Next thing you know they're going to update the characters from all my favorite books to these new rules and I know I'm not going to agree with anything that's done with them.
