D&D 5E I thought that I had seen a Range limit to the sneak attack with the Ranged Weapon, 30 feet

From the players handbook, a weapon is either melee or ranged.

A trebuchet is obviously not a melee weapon, therefore it must be a ranged weapon.

A sneak attack must be made with a ranged weapon or a weapon with the finesse quality.

Now, not all "ranged weapon attacks" which all siege weapons are listed as doing are ranged weapons. See the handaxe as it can be used to make a ranged weapon attack but it is not a ranged weapon. So maybe siege weapons are another group of weapons outside of the melee/ranged categories since they appear in the DMG, but that is never spelled out clearly. So maybe you can make sneak attacks with siege weapons.
I suppose there are rules lawyers willing to debate anything.

You clearly rolled a 1 on your Wisdom (Insight) check to detect sarcasm. :)

I That is how I read the Archery Skill of the Fighter

Ranged Weapons
Melee Weapon
Melee Weapons with Range property is still a Melee weapon that can be thrown

So I have been turned to the other side of the "Melee Weapons with Range property" Sneak Attack

"Melee Weapons with Range property" does NOT allow "Sneak Attack " until Mr. Crawford says it does or Mike fires him or Hasbro out sources Wizards to India

Wait, where in the rules does it say a weapon that is used at range is not a ranged weapon?

P 146, under Weapons.

PHB said:
A melee weapon is used to attack a target within 5 feet of you, whereas a ranged weapon is used to attack a target at a distance.

The bold is from the PHB.

The sentence is explaining melee weapons and ranged weapons. It's not explaining melee attacks and ranged attacks. In other words, that sentence does not say: "A weapon used to attack a target within 5 feet is a melee weapon. A weapon used to attack a target at a distance is a ranged weapon."

A Melee Weapon with the "Range Property" like Dagger, Handaxe, Javelin can be used as a Ranged Weapon and that was the question, can a "Thrown Weapon (Thrown Property)" be used to do Sneak Attack

See the Melee Table for the weapons that have the "Range" property

The Boss of Mr. Crawford, Mike said yes, but now I don't care, I have moved on to a different game with Rules, Checkers

The love of 5.0 has died in the Mud Forest

Thank you Mr. Crawford for killing the Love

Reminds me of 1st edition, we all came to a consensus at the table and played on.

Even some things that were perfectly clear...we consensused* and played on.

* spelled wrong on purpose.

Sometimes we did not come to a consensus and the group broke up and went our separate ways or we started a game of Checkers; "Dr. Falken, Want to Play a Game of Checkers", Nope I want to play Thermonuclear War in the Mud Forest from Hell
