Jack looked in horror at the toothy maw as he struggled against the crushing grip of the monster's tendril. Without thinking, he slipped a hand between the tentacle and his chest, found a leverage point, and twisted his body quickly.

OOC: Jack will use his action to try to escape the grapple (acrobatics check). Not sure what the DC is, so if he succeeded, he'll then use his movement plus cunning action to dash over the rubble to the west (DK74 or thereabouts), where he will try to take cover from any additional tentacle attacks.

Athletics check to escape grapple: 1D20+5 = [12]+5 = 17

EDIT: Jack also has Second Story Work (climbing does not cost extra movement) in case he has to climb over the rubble.

Eoghan moves a bit closer, chanting powerfully and deeply. Each resonance seemed to infuse the closest of the party with life.

OOC: Moves to DS80. Using his last 3rd level slot, Eoghan casts Aid on Valda, Bible and Jack. (If he can't see Jack, then Cordit it the 3rd target).
Aid at 3rd level will add 10 maximum and current HPs to each target for 8 hours. This should wake up Valda.

Jack slipped out of the tentacles and scrambled over some loose rocks. He found himself taking cover behind a buttress that supported a hallway that sloped upward. He remembered having looked down this way from above; before they had gone into the crypt-barracks. Sure enough, up there was the Elf Knight Tamanar, who had heard the commotion and come to look by the shortest route. He called down, "Do you need help down there? I could bring some dwarves or orcs, but I feel that they are likely to get themselves eaten."

Eoghan's powerful chanting made Jack and Bible feel stamina flow through their bodies. Valda woke, lying on the ground with a terrible bite-wound on her shoulder. It wouldn't be long before the rock-creature would try to bite her once more.

OOC: Yup. +10HP to Bible, Jack, & Valda.

Valda awoke with a start, for a moment wondering if she had died, but the pain of the having a chunk of her shoulder torn out, along with the rock-like creature thrashing and whipping it's tendrils around. Valda knew she wasn't fast enough to get out of range of those things. The only chance would be to kill it before it realized she was back up. Gripping her sword with her good arm she thrust again and again at the creature.

Upon awakening, Valda grabbed her sword and thrust it into the creature's vulnerable eye. It shuddered and spat goo and her own blood at her as it died, its tendrils finally coming to rest lifelessly on the ground.

"Boo!" said Harmock the dwarf, his strange smile replaced with a frown, "How very boring of you!"

His accent had changed significantly, from the familiar brogue of a dwarf to something oddly foreign. Something that reminded Jack of someone he'd never forgotten, but wished he could.

OOC: Valda killed the roper. We will drop out of rounds for now.

Finding herself in Cordit's shaggy arms, Bible sheathes her sword and embraces her former ship's mascot, saying, "Come to momma, me little sweet Cordit. You're me little sweet Cordit," as she tickles the great ape head under the chin.

Glancing back at the dwarf, she mutters, "I think something's wrong with his voice. Maybe he don't like us thrashin' his octopussy. Anyways, I don't like the look of him."

She listens intently to the dwarf's changing accent to determine if it offers any clues about his true identity.

"Perhaps you should go see what your wizard is up to, eh?" said the dwarf. "These tunnels aren't safe to wander alone."

Bible had travelled extensively, and she thought the accent sounded similar to something she'd heard far to the east, but it was also clipped in a way that reminded her of a Bard's impression of a devil in a popular tale.

Jack looked up at Tamanar and started to shake his head at the elf when he heard the dwarf's voice suddenly change.

"You..." he whispered to himself. Images of his blood, the blood of his sweet sister, flashed through if ragged mind.

Then, his voice shaking with rage, "No."

Stepping back over the pile of rubble while reloading his crossbow, Jack swiftly turned back into the passageway and faced the dwarf squarely.

"Azbar! You'll pay for what you did to Dahlia. You took everything from me! Die, you devil!!!"

Jack lowered Darling and fired.

OOC: Jack uses cunning action to move and dash to DQ76. Assuming he can see the "dwarf" from there, he then attacks with his crossbow.
Attack with light crossbow: 1D20+10 = [20]+10 = 30
1D8+6 = [8]+6 = 14

Crit extra damage: 1D8 = [5] = 5

That is totally nuts (and appropriately dramatic) that he got a critical on that attack. Too bad it wasn't a sneak attack!
