(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 1

From around the corner, Eoghan's bandore starts off low and insistant. His fingers demand power from the strings and the Bardic Instrument delivers. His chanting wraps around these deep notes, embueing them. In triumphant playing he walks around the corner, closer to the battle. Each of his comrade - even the dwarven, even the orcs!, find that at some point in the combat there's been a leitmotif he's played while they acted. And it's now pulled full front and center, resplendent in these notes. It's a call to action, but a personalized one. It calls each to what they can do as if by name, by sinew, by heart.

OOC: Eoghan turns visible (it only lasts until start of round), moves closer (say DW83), and as his action uses Bard's Countercharm ability.

I'm really excited - This is a class feature I've never had a chance to use in all the 5e I've played!

Countercharm
At 6th level, you gain the ability to use musical notes or words of power to disrupt mind-influencing effects. As an action, you can start a performance that lasts until the end of your next turn. During that time, you and any friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed. A creature must be able to hear you to gain this benefit. The performance ends early if you are incapacitated or silenced or if you voluntarily end it (no action required).

Azbar's words cut Jack like a knife. All the more so for their truthfulness. He had one job to do - watch Dahlia's back - and he failed her.

He looked into Azbar's compelling eyes and felt the devil's overwhelming presence entering his mind; to turn his rage unto his companions. It would be so easy to give in to him. To lash out and anyone and anything.

But no, he had a score to settle. Sucking air into his burning lungs, he drew strength from the giant-kin's baritone voice somewhere behind him, and slashed at the twisted monstrosity once again with his blades.

"Die, you devil!" he shouted.

OOC: Jack makes his save with advantage (phew) and then attacks twice, finally hitting it with his off-hand attack.

Wisdom Save with advantage: 2D20.HIGH(1)+2 = [19, 5]+2 = 21

Sneak attack with dagger of venom: 1D20+10 = [5]+10 = 15
1D4+6+5D6 = [2]+6+[3, 1, 3, 6, 3] = 24

Sneak attack with short sword_: 1D20+9 = [18]+9 = 27
1D6+5+5D6 = [3]+5+[6, 3, 4, 1, 3] = 25

Edit to add: the short sword is not magical.

The star light bathing Valda pulses again and healing energy pours into her. Quinn turns his attention to the rakshasa sending a bolt of starlight toward the fiend. The bolt strikes the monster bathing it in motes of starlight. Quinn then moves back to put some distance between himself and the fiend.

OOC: Action: Casting Guiding Bolt at rakshasa. Guiding bolt at rakshasa: 1d20+10 24 4d6 16
Bonus: Aura of Vitality heal on Valda: 2d6+1d4 12

Valda moves cautiously towards the combat, pulling out her bow and firing off some shots at the tiger monster. The giant ape unfortunately blocked getting good access the opponent, but she looked around to see if there was a way through, including on the ceiling or walls that her boots could exploit.

OOC:
Sorry about the wait there, I thought I had posted in this round for some reason. So, I know that Rakshasa's have a damage immunity to non-magical weapons, but Valda does not so I went ahead and made some attack rolls for the bow to see if they hit and we can see that, but I won't bother rolling damage.

Longbow Attack Rolls: 1D20+7 = [19]+7 = 26
1D20+7 = [1]+7 = 8

Other than that I will move closer and see if there is a way to get around Cordit somehow.

When Cordit's big hairy fists lifted back off of the tiger-like fiend, he appeared to be unharmed. He was about to smile a toothy grin when Jack shook off his control with the help of Eoghan and stabbed him with a dagger. Though he moved enough to avoid the thrust, his eyes narrowed at the sight of the blade - a magical blade that Jack had acquired for just this purpose (his other blade slid harmlessly along the fiend's hide).

"I see you have come prepared, and with useful allies." Azbar sighed as Quinn struck him with a bolt - the first time the creature had felt pain in many years. "Perhaps I will have to murder them myself."

The fiend twisted, curling up, and then suddenly appeared, unfurling, down the tunnel, between Quinn and Eoghan. He slashed out with his claws at each of them, drawing blood across Quinn's shoulder as Eoghan lunged out of the way, avoiding a scratch to his back.

Cordit realized that she was more in the way than she was useful, and she stepped over Valda and Tamanar, who had come to join the fight. Valda took a shot with her bow, but the arrow bounced uselessly off of the fiend's hide. "It's no use, the elf knight shook his head, "Only magic can harm this foul thing."

Bible had a magic sword, presented to her by the council when she had been elected Reeve. She bounded across the tunnel and slashed into the fiend, drawing thick purplish blood.

OOC: Nicely saved! Jack narrowly missed. Quinn did 16 and took 8 (after Azbar Misty Stepped over to him); Bible did 15 & 10.

OOC: I forgot to mention, but some Orcs and Dwarves have also come to see if they can do anything to help.

Those close to Eoghan aren't sure if they heard him murmur under his breath, "finally something intelligent enough to mock properly", but when his clarion tones rang forth with "You idol of idiot-worshippers, built to attract the spinsters but they couldn't be bothered to put your hands on the right way." they might have confirmed it.

And with another in-drawn breath he vanished again, but then his voice drifted over our reinforcements from close by, "Brave orcs, dwarves - distract it so we can land the most solid of blows."

OOC: A quick point of order: Quinn had 8 tHP, so the attack last round should have taken all of them away.

Vicious Mockery on the Rakshasa. DC 17 WIS save or 2 psychic damage and disadvantage on next attack. What a lousy time to roll minimum.
Vicious Mockery: 2D4 = [1, 1] = 2

He uses his 2nd Hidden Step to turn invisible until the start of his next turn, moving to DX86.

The final bit was asking orcs or dwarves to use the Help action to let those with magic weapons hit it.
