Alleesha's Pantry
The ashen stink of the Slags presses in on all your senses as you draw near to Alleesha’s Pantry. The building itself is a squat brick edifice, crudely cobbled together. Yet through the pantry’s glass windows, you glimpse something unexpected an almost cheery glow spilling out into the rain soaked street. Warm light dances across the panes, and within, movement and color stand in stark contrast to the gray ruin outside. A sign hangs above the door, its message painted in many different alphabets: “Every basher is welcome here.”
Inside, the air is alive with sound and scent. Tales are boasted loudly over shared tables, voices rising in laughter and song, all in praise of the food. The pantry bustles with color bright posters plaster the walls, and the rich aroma of simmering soup and freshly baked bread clings warmly to the air. Strips of parchment, carefully folded into the shapes of flowers, adorn tables not already crowded with folk sharing pots of stew. For a moment, sheltered from Sigil’s cold rain and endless tension, the atmosphere feels genuinely welcoming almost defiantly so.
Menu
Breakfast
Sootbread Toast with Scraps Jam
Yesterday’s bread revived with a touch of toasting and smeared with a questionable fruit spread, heavy on the mystery berries.
Hard-Tack Porridge
Oats boiled to near-paste, sometimes featuring sweeteners like molasses or honey (if Allesha’s been lucky that week).
Mystery Egg Medley
A scrambled mess of “eggs” (source unspecified, but often avian) spiced with leftover herbs. Good luck guessing what kind they are today.
Lunch
Pigeon Stew with Wilted Greens
Tender bits of pigeon and barely identifiable greens floating in a thin, tomato-based broth. Comes with a side of stale crackers.
Tomato Soup Surprise
A generous pot of watery tomato soup, sometimes thickened with yesterday’s leftover porridge. The “surprise” is some days it might actually have flavour.
Panfried Rat & Root Hash
Seared rodent meat diced and mixed with tough root vegetables. Surprisingly hearty, if you don’t mind knowing the main ingredient squeaked its last just hours earlier.
Extras (if you’re lucky)
Twice-Baked Crusties
Hard bread slices baked again to crunchy perfection. Perfect for dipping or using as a makeshift weapon.
Pickled Slum Cabbage
A sharp, sour side dish fermented with vinegar and hope. Keeps the stomach occupied, if not happy.
Drinks
Vegetable Scraps Tea
Hot and earthy, with a suspiciously orange hue. Unlimited refills, because even Allesha can’t pawn off that much of it.
Herb-Infused Water
Boiled water steeped with whatever herbs are handy. Refreshing, with a side of “what’s-that-taste?” curiosity.
Dessert
Candied Squiggle Fruit (Seasonal)
Sticky chunks of something sweet, caramelised to disguise whatever it once was. Often a hit with the local street urchins.
Subject to change based on availability, whims of the Hive, and the occasional generous donation from a bashful merchant.
Note: Complaints about the menu (unless as part of a jolly song) will earn you a stern glare and a lecture from Allesha. Remember, beggars can’t be choosers—or gourmets.
