D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

Neurotic

I plan on living forever. Or die trying.
Myrral sings short note and chants (yowling and growling) something in vaguely moving rhythm. Given the reaction of the hunters and the shaman, it was a call to arms as they move at the same time converging on the middle part of the ship.

The chant turns into an evil hiss which raises higher, turns into a moan and ends in a pure note (surprising that, coming from the cat ;) ). The echo of that can be seen moving the leaves of the branch where southernmost zombie rushes toward them.

The hunters put their bows to good use as two arrows thud solidly into approaching zombie.

OOC: everyone, the plan for the next round is that tabaxi pile onto GZ2 and push him off the branch. I've prepared the best I can with inspiration and attacking in unison, but these are big beasties...so keep your fingers crossed. And bless us if you can :)

Myrral: Move to Z16

Myrral casts Dissonant whispers on GZ3
Dissonant whispers damage: 3D6 = [2, 5, 6] = 13
Will DC 13 for half; on failed save the creature moves away from the caster at max speed

Bonus action: inspiration to Grrol

Braapp: Move to Z17
Grrol: Move: to V12 (avoiding OAs)
Hunters attack GZ2; damage: 1D20+5 = [16]+5 = 21
1D6+3 = [2]+3 = 5
1D20+5 = [17]+5 = 22
1D6+3 = [4]+3 = 7

Qawasha cursed at the undead beast slipping past his magical trap, only to see it swarmed by the Tabaxi hunters. But there was another one, dangerously close to them. He wasn't sure if it would work, but he had to try. He beeseeched the might tree, and once again, branches started wrapping around the enormous zombie.

Action: Cast Entangle on GZ3
Strength save DC 12 or be restrained. 20 by 20 area around the creature becomes difficult terrain (he will try to place it so that the undead is at the edge, not the centre of the zone, ie has more of entangle area to cross to reach the party)

Speed 30 ft.
STR 10 (+0) DEX 12 (+1) CON 13 (+1) INT 12 (+1) WIS 15 (+2) CHA 11 (+0)

Attack: +2 to hit (staff), 1d6/1d8 dmg. Shillelagh: +4 to hit, 1d8+2 dmg
OOC: spell slot usage was wrong in previous mini sheet, fixed it

Rodrigo gritted his teeth. He wasn't sure how long he could last alone vs that foul beast. He better keep an eye open for a riposte or a parry. He feinted left, followed by a heavy moulinet to the beast's skull, sending bone chips flying.

2nd round attack vs Gz1: 1D20+6 = [17]+6 = 23

2nd round attack vs Gz1: 1D8+6 = [7]+6 = 13

He fell back smoothly into guard, bracing himself for the onslaught.

Legend
The battle raged on the stern-section of the wreck as Rodrigo danced in and slashed with his rapier against the the enormous ape-like undead and it scratched and snapped at him. Dellrak hacked his with an axe, and Miss Imogen shot it with an arrow, and for a moment, the creature seemed like it was about to fall. Then suddenly, it grabbed Dellrak with all four of its clawed hands and viciously chewed on the unfortunate dwarf. The wound looked terrible and Miss Imogen was nearly certain that her friend would not survive it.

Others were faring not much better - the tabaxi were roaring out some sort of coordinated plan, but they needed to get into position and the fleeing crewmen where getting in the way. This log-jam at a crucial spot where Nhar was attempting to get Ra-nas up to the bow of the ship caused an unfortunate accident: Kasqa stepped to the side to let them past, and he lost his footing and fell out of sight into the misty jungle below. No one quite knew how he fared, but the sound of him crashing through the lower branches did not bode well for the Chultan warrior.

The captain fired another small quarrel from her hand crossbow, but her hands still shook from her fatigue and the bolt went off into the mist. As a creature moved toward the ship's midsection, Harb stepped in to keep it at bay - first striking it with an arrow, and then defending himself with block-strikes as it came at him. He was scratched, but he held fast as Weed struck a stone off of the undead ape's head. Ukee flew around the tree and headed toward Harb, screeching in her worry.

Myrral and Qawasha both tried to slow the furthest creature - the druid caused the tree to wrap its branches about it, and the shaman tried to scare it off with some mind-effecting magic, but neither worked. The creature broke free of the vines and shook off the magic and it hurled itself from the tree toward the midsection of the ship.

Miss Imogen had asked Falx if he would use his wand, and he had only just replied, "Only if I have to, miss. It is not best in these conditions."

...when the creature hurled itself toward him. The man-at-arms flung his hand up and a bolt of flame licked out of the wand. It went past the creature, as if the man had missed, but then suddenly exploded into a large ball of flames that rolled back toward the ship, burning the leaves from the trees and setting some of it on fire. It burned the undead ape that was chewing on poor Dellrak, and the creature slumped over the dwarf, smoldering and still.

Unfortunately, the undead ape that was leaping toward Falx was burned, but it didn't stop - instead, it landed on the midsection and clawed at the man, who barely survived as he stumbled back. Brax, the youngest crewman had just climbed up to that section of the ship, and the creature reached out with one arm and grabbed the young man, shoving him into its mouth with a terrible crunch.

Miss Imogen turns, and on the stern portion of the ship, separated by a gulf of open air in the trees, she sees Dellrak stumble and fall. Her eyes are still re-adjusting from the flash of Falx's wand. She brings them to focus, and there's another of the creatures, alone, with Rodrigo, barely able to stand, and all she can see is the gulf between them.

Miss Imogen is not a healer. She has no potions on her that can assist either of them. All she can do is gaze at them across the open space. "Noooo!" she cries.

She is not aware of the arrow that she fires. All she is doing is staring at the creature looming over her friend.

OOC:
I believe Dellrack has one. You had one earlier, not sure how long it lasts. And you could wait for Myrral to go and then act. Or, you know, not shoot with sharpshooter...although I agree you had incredible streak of bad luck since you roll most of the time with the advantage and still miss.

OOC: I thought about not using Sharpshooter, but figured with advantage it's too big a damage bonus to ignore, given the situation over there.

Tabaxi ran over to the zombie threatening the sailors converging into and onto it from three sides. Unfortunately, something that should have been well coordinated attack was spoiled by the need to avoid pushing sailors to their doom and slowdown caused the zombie to take three weak hits instead of one overpowering one.

Still, now there are combatants next to the zombie instead of the sailors.

Bonus: inspiration to the second hunter (the idea is to roll both Athletics checks with the bonus :) )
