If her eyes were wide before, now they are goggling comically; an expression hard to distinguish between abject terror and utter shock.

"This..." she stammers, and grabs the shuriken to hold them like she'd hold a hand of cards. Then her other hand plunges into the coins and comes out to release a shower of precious metals back into the chest. "...this..."

For once, even Sachiko is at a loss for words.

She grabs the pin and laughs as she jabs it playfully at Fastus, then just as fast drops it to open the fan and wave it around.

"It's Tian!" Sachiko finally exclaims. "It's from Tian Xia! Suldrel! Elsbeth! Come here!"

Wireth wanders over to the chest, his curiosity piqued. His ridged brow furrows as Sachiko reveals the contents.

"The coins I understand. Maybe even the throwing stars, but ... who keeps a pin and a fan in a treasure chest?" he asks.

The half-orc's frown deepens slightly as he turns around, studying the walls.

"Okay, I could have sworn there should be an alcove here, but it's all walls."

He walks over to where he would expect the extension to be, running his hands along the surface and squinting at the grain of the wood.

Upon closer inspection:
the interior of the chest is lined with velvet
the shuriken look well made
the long pin is actually a long hairpin with a red pearl at one end
the fan is a gold-and-ivory fan depicting a gecko walking amid cherry blossoms; a crude map has been painted on the reverse side
you estimate about 100 gold coins
you estimate about 300 silver coins

Meanwhile, search as he may, Wireth still cannot find any sign of anything.

Wireth bites his lip. "There has to be something here, right?" he mutters to himself, giving the section of wall a slow, careful pass to assure himself that he's not missing anything.

Wireth spends a while thoroughly searching the wall and finally notices it. A cleverly placed secret door which, once found, is easily opened. Within the small room is are two other secret doors to the north and south.

"And there's a map on it too!" pointed out an excited Fastus, quickly getting over his disappointment at the 'no traps' thing. "Lay it here, Sachi." And he closed the chest back up so they could ALL have a look.

"Nobody builds a ladder to NOTHING!" smugly crowed the young blacksmith with a grin when Wireth uncovered the secret passages, then he turned back to examining the map.

OOC: What does this thing look like, TS? Any recognizable landmarks? (Let me know if you want a Knowledge - Local roll. 15 on a Take10 if allowed).

Jariah approached as well, taking a look at the treasure chest and the items in it. “Interesting. Are the pin and the fan magical, Elsbeth?”

With the last of the village explored, the summoner sighed with relief. They had slaughtered a bunch of goblins and even had a prisoner. There was large amounts of valuables to take back as well as the proof of the bounty. She had no money before and now she thought they were going to be very well off by comparison.

She moved back to the room with the dead chieftain and knelt on the floor. She began the ritual of summoning to bring Jakira back from his original plane. It took a minute, but it appeared that they had the time.

In the center of an arcane circle that Jariah had traced with her finger upon the floor of the hut, the black furred feline appeared. Jakira spoke, "What did I miss?" Jariah filled him with a mental explanation of events.

In a disappointed tone he groused, "Ahh, he alrrready gatherrred the earrrs."

Elsbeth

Elsbeth continued to stare at the items before her. The others had distracted her in the middle of the spell with all their talking, yelling, and running about. Can't they just relax and be quiet for a few minutes? Okay, that was probably too much to ask of Sachiko.

Elsbeth sighed and recast the spell and stared at all the pretty colors. They were so beautiful. The others had no idea what they were missing.

Suldrel examines the items, handling them with care. "Yes, it does bear a certain similarity to some of the heirlooms Ameiko and her family hold on to," he says with a bit of reservation. "But what is it doing here, in a goblins' village? This is just - bizarre. And bizarre is not my favourite state of affairs..." The elf's gaze lingers on the map, attempting to decipher it.
