D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

As the evening had worn on, Dandin had pulled out a small shawm which he played for a short while. The music was oddly relaxing and everyone who heard it felt refreshed afterwards.

At the end of the dinner, Dandin made sure to go to each of the guests and introduce himself personally and thank them for a lovely night. (Especially Sir Darfin, the elves, and Jekk)

Once outside, Dandin listened to Angus's remarks and nodded. "I can probably acquire most of what we need at a reduced price. I'll need to make a stop to the shipwrights as well, to get the repairs underway. But since we seem to be in a rush, I can still bring my cart for transporting any heavy equipment. Not to mention everything we can bring away with us..."

Tommi has all he needs for the expedition already, and so in the morning he goes to the shop, withdraws the money, and then makes his way to his mother Jyn's house.

"What've you got yourself mixed up with now?" she asked when he came in. News travels fast in Daggerford, and Tommi and the halflings had been unexpected participants amongst the real heroes.

"Nothing, ma," Tommi lied. "It'll just be a short trip. I'll be back soon enough. But in the mean time, I have something for you." He pulls out the bag of coins and small gems he had withdrawn. "This is for you to hold onto, Ma. Take anything you need from it. Just in case."

It's a foolishly large amount -- it would buy a half dozen of his mother's blankets, and she did well for herself. But it gave her some security, in case something bad happened. If he thought about it in those terms, Tommi said not a word.

"I gotta go, ma. They're waiting." He leans down and gives her a kiss on her cheek, slings his backpack and his lute onto his shoulder, and whistles as he heads off to visit the sheriff. On the way, he picks up a few pebbles to keep in his pocket.

The scene with Sheren is similar, with Tommi shrugging his shoulders at the improbability that he would be useful, pulling his fingers through his still uncombed hair as he bashfully speaks with the Marshal. "You've done alright, Sher. I got to give this a try." His hand is fiddling with the sling that he has tied around his wrist. "They were wondering about the prisoners, though. If anything was learned that might be useful for us? Can you tell me?" he asks.

"I love you ma," Lionel kisses his mother. She had raged most of the night and was still red faced and puffy eyed this morning, but the young cook had held firm in his resolve. "People need help, maybe I am not the best person for the job." he had argued. "But I am willing to do something to help."

His pack was quite cumbersome, loaded down with food and supplies, he sighed with relief as he loaded it onto Bessie's cart. He took his seat with the crossbow near to hand.

"Lets go Bess!"

The next morning, Dandin was up early and took his breakfast to go. He hitched up the cart, and went on a series of errands, picking up his share of the promised funds and transferring them to the Sullerton Shipyard where he contracted to have the boat repaired.

After that, he went for the local apothecary, hoping to purchase some healing elixirs and the market in search of any items requested by the others.

OOC: + then -200 GP for boat repairs. Then doing shopping for anyone who needs anything. Hoping to find some healing potions.

Persuasion: [roll0] Haggling for price reductions. (And using their status as heroes for a potential bonus (or advantage [roll1], if viable.)[/roll]

Dandin

"You're in luck!" said Nigel Sullerton as Dandin came to him to commission the repairs. "Most of our laborers are river-folk, and they want to donate their their time in fixing her up. So it'll just be seventy-five pieces of gold for the materials, inspections, and a few skilled hands. The rest won't take a copper for their time! You have friends on the river, indeed."

Lionel

Even Lionel's father came to see him off, and while the older Hardcheese shook his head at the younger for upsetting his mother, Lionel could see something proud in his bearing. His sisters had teased him unmercifully as he had packed, but as the cart rolled away, he saw them both hug their mother, as red-faced as she was.

Upon leaving, Titus goes searching for a good Warhorse.

OOC: He can't afford one yet, but I'd like him to find one, and then save his money to buy it.

Angis Honack
Daggerford
Morning
Round 0

Angis woke early, as was his custom. He checked his little brewery in the basement, making sure it would be okay for a time. Then he returned to his rooms and gathered his gear. He sat at the small desk and jotted out a note to his managers in Waterdeep about what he was doing, and to handle any business in the meantime. He left the note with his landlady for the next post, and then headed for the apothecary to see if he had any healing potions available.

Leaving Sir Isteval's house, Enseth salutes everyone, "Sleep well, friends. If anyone needs some help to get ready, I'm at your disposal and ready to serve."

Then Enseth stands still for a moment as his torso opens and an hovering sphere come out bleeping. "Go and find them, ORB1."
"Bleep!"
His gaze followed the sphere quickly raising in the air until it disapeared out of sight. If nobody asked for his help, he heads to the marshal's office and standing in front of the door, switches on idle mode.

When Tommi arrives, the Shield Guardian salutes him. "Hello Maester Slinger. How are you today? I hope your wound is mending. I suppose you're here for answers from Marshal Miller. He is a great commander and a man of honor."

Enseth & Tommi

"She,"
said Sherlen Miller, overhearing Enseth and correcting him. "You must be thinking of my ancestor, the Spearslayer, who I was named for. I've heard that you were built in his time, by Gwaereth the Gray."

After welcoming them in and hearing about Tommi's new venture, she sighed, keeping her opinion to herself. On the subject of the goblin prisoners she said, "We were awaiting an interviewer who better spoke their gibberish when the Duke ordered them hanged. We were able to get nothing worthwhile out of them beyond that they came from 'upriver'. And that the might of their god would see us all in chains. I think it was this report that caused the Duke to order the execution."

She added with a look of distaste, "They are hanging from the wall by the River Gate."

As Tommi made to leave, she stopped him and said, "Look, Tom. I know I can be... critical of you. But I want you to know..." she trailed off, changing what she was going to say, "Just be careful out there, okay? Your mother needs you."

OOC: I think I've posted these before, but it's always good to have a reminder:

People of Daggerford: Sherlen Miller
The commander of the Daggerford militia and constable of the town, Sherlen Miller strives every day to live up to her namesake, a great hero of Daggerford, Sherlen "Spearslayer.” Sherlen considers it an honor to serve in the same role that Spearslayer did a hundred years ago. Her different roles require disparate aspects of Sherlen’s personality. As commander of the militia, Sherlen is responsible for teaching townsfolk basic combat techniques. She’s happy as a trainer, willing to school fellow warriors in advanced tricks. As constable, she mediates disputes and looks after the duke’s interests, a role in which she is much less comfortable. Sherlen is a young human woman of strong build, with short brown hair and green eyes. She typically wears studded leather armor and is rarely seen without a spear, which she carries in honor of her namesake.

Places of Daggerford: Jail (Area 6)
The jail building (area 6) houses Sherlen Miller, an office for her roles as town constable and militia commander, and a couple cells. The cells rarely hold any prisoners, except rowdies who need time to cool off or sober up. Suspects of serious crimes are held in the castle dungeons until trial. Less serious crimes are handled according Council of Guilds laws, in which imprisonment isn’t used as punishment.
