D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

As Lunn smashed the skeleton and Morgan took a look about the Altar, Tommi opened the old door to the north, with some effort. Oh-Six's light revealed a short hallway that came to a hidden door, obvious from this side.

Titus and Helgrim followed Tommi, with the old dwarf saying, "Coom naow, laddie. We doon't need tae be stirrin' oop all'n sundry, d'we?"

Lionel went to join Morgan, and he tapped on the stone top and around the sides, saying, "Be careful, Doctor, there might be a trap, or a hidden compartment!"

"You bet," Tommi says. "Just clearing out the basement so that it doesn't repopulate. I don't think this will take five minutes. If you want you can go up and start a kettle. But with what we've done, it makes sense to keep going, no?"

The boy wipes his sleeve against his lower lip, thinking it will clear away some grit, but it just ends up smearing it across his chin.

"No, actually. We had some tough fights. It won't re-pop-yulate in one night. Let's call it a day, eh?"

OOC: Can we take that long rest now? :)

The elf mulls it over for a moment, never one to be hasty with decisions. Finally, he turns to Tommi
"I would also say 'no' to continuing. Let's get back up and rest.

Our new companion can provide some extra information maybe and we can leave guards up so that new threats don't bite us when we return. And spells can be prepared that deal specifically with evil and undead."

OOC: This assumes Morgan doesn't have all spells prepared since we found him captive...and things like consecrate can add to my personal ability to deal with the altar and the undead.

"I have spells that can ward an area, now that I have my spellbook. "

He says, somewhat distracted by his search of the altar

I have to see what spells are rituals but I got to access my slots last short rest

OOC: If we're having a long rest, it makes sense for everyone to go back up to the house. I (as a player) am fine with that, and I don't think anyone would choose to spend 8 hrs here in a sewer when comparative comfort is a 2 minute walk away -- which there is.

Tommi obvioulsy isn't thinking in terms of "long rests": he sees clearing this out being a matter of 5-10 more minutes work, and he wants to get the job done. But (returning to the meta-frame) I want people to have fun, and if pushing this isn't fun, then I will convince Tommi to aquiesce.

So given that:

The young man hears Lunn's call to rest. "Come on," he says, doing his best to keep a whining tone out of his voice. "Just a bit more? We're almost done, and the evil will be cleared from this place."

But then he sees the look on Vairar's face. And he is deflated. "Okay. I get it." (He doesn't get it.) "Let's go back up stairs and make ourselves comfortable. YOu all know much more about how these things work than I do."

As the others convinced Tommi to get some rest, suddenly Lionel and Morgan, who had been searching the old altar, got into some sort of conflict. They'd bumped into each other and Morgan stumbled, as if he'd nearly blacked out. Then Lionel raised his crossbow and let a quarrel fly at Morgan, just as the doctor was recovering his senses.

The halfling yelled, "The doctor is trying to betray us! He did something to the altar! Let's get out of here before he summons more skeletons!"

And then Lionel began to run for the tunnel.

OOC: Morgan takes 18 damage from a quarrel. Anyone who wishes can roll and Insight or a Perception roll for more information.

OOC: Tommi has expertise in Insight. 1d20+11=27.

"Lionel, wait!" Tommi calls after his friend. "What's happened?"

Tommi first met Lionel when they were kids. The halfling was a few years older than him, but Tommi was always taller, Lionel used the boy's hight from time to time to get to places he shouldn't be. The two of them knew each other well, and it wasn't like him to accuse anyone.

It also wasn't like him to run.

Tommi feels he has a deep insight into his friend's heart.

Lunn is too tired to pay much attention. They just agreed to return back for some rest.

OOC: @Kobold Stew Generally, I'd say we push on - I've never played barbarian and I'm not used to having to juggle rages per day, but Lunn should be good for one more encounter. But strategically (and he IS experienced warrior taken in by elves), it is smarter to collect information and be ready for ghosts, skeletons, rats and evil altars rather than just blundering blindly.

And while you and me can swing the weapons all day, casters can't.
That said, the encounter apparently found us :)

"How do you know we're almost done, Tommi?" Escella says. "There could be a lot more places to clear out down here. Whether there's not much left or there is a lot left, it will all still be here when we return."
