D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

"He went in stealthily earlier while we were fighting the hyenas. He and the ball mapped all this earlier."
Vairar quips with a smile.
C'mmon, Tommi, there will be things to explore even if you have to wait for us old people."

As the commotion starts he quickly grows serious again quickly guesstimates what is going on. He grips Shatterpike more firmly and lowers the point toward the altar.

Morgan yells out in pain. He’s only barely able to get his ward up in time but the bolt smashed through the last of his protections.

He manages to get out two words before drawing out spell components,

“Lionel’s possessed!”

He turns and sits up, holds his amulet and words of power touch his lips. There’s no urgency despite the situation. In fact he says the words in a kind of comical slow motion. The effect on Lionel is instantaneous as the halfling’s sprint turns into a slow jog.

If I’m allowed a reaction, Morgan can absorb 9 of the 18 damage with his abjuration ability.

He casts Slow on Lionel. He gets a Wis save dc 15 at the end of his next turn to shake it off.

Tommi had always known Morgan as a very easy going man with a good sense of humour.

For most everyone who'd never met Morgan before the gnoll camp, he’d been polite, thoughtful and thorough in trying to uncover why the gnolls had taken this place.

It wasn’t until they arrived in this basement that he’d become impatient and pushy, urging the group to delve further, often prompting them to risk danger. Now, though, he seemed as exhausted as a defeated wrestler after a bout, slowly trying to pull himself up off the mat.

"Aah! said Lionel as Morgan cast a spell at him, "He's trying to kill me with his Dark Magicks!"

But the spell seemed only to slow him down (doing no harm) before he shook off its effects and pushed his way past Escella to run down the tunnel.

Tommi knew Lionel to be insecure, but braver than he believed himself to be. The terror he was displaying now seemed overblown - almost comical - and there was something to his movements that was off, as if he were getting used to his own short legs.

Vairar looked at the altar, thinking to destroy it was Shatterpike, and he noticed that Lionel and Morgan had found a compartment. It was empty - but had Lionel removed something from it? Yes, there was a large black and red rod tucked in his belt as he ran away down the tunnel.

There was a moment of confusion as Lionel and Morgan shouted recriminations at each other, and Lionel shrugged off Morgan's slow spell. The halfling turned and ran, and Tommi quickly felt that he had to take the Doctor's side over his strangely-acting childhood friend. Tommi left the short tunnel behind and leaped over the water-trough, giving chase.

Lionel had already turned the corner of the tunnel, heading for the red brick room.

OOC: Okay, I guess we break out the Chase Rules! @Kobold Stew Tommi (and anyone else who wants to give it a shot) gimme an athletics check or whatever clever alternate idea you have, and we'll see when, where, and IF you catch him.

Tommi is fast, and he is very aware that his team sometimes castigates him for running off on his own. This time he is running off, and admittedly this time he doesn't really have much of a plan, but he's not on his own, he's going after Lionel, and he's known Lionel Hardcheese for as long as he can remember.

Whatever happened, Tommi wants the group to be careful, like he has been, and not rash and all judgemental, as sometimes happens.

He does his best to catch up to Lionel. and maybe he can grab him, though he knows his friend is small.

OOC: EDIT: Tommi has expertise in Athletics (not just proficiency): 1d20+3=10 + 3 for expertise = 13.

Move and action and bonus dash = 90', and if someone ends their turn (including an ally) w/in 5' of Tommi skirmisher gives him an extra 15' with a reaction to pull ahead. I think Lionel can at most do 25+25+25.

OOC: I don’t know if it matters. Lionel won initiative, shot Morgan and moved away, so he moved before Morgan cast slow. The spell is supposed to last until the end of Lionel's next turn so I was figuring it would at least affect him for this round. Unless I'm getting the order wrong or something, I thought he could only move 25 feet his round.

OOC: I'm not sure what you mean. He made the saving throw.

Morgan runs down the hallway, hoping to block the passageway with a well-placed web before Lionel can escape

Move 30 feet and, if I can get a web spell in front of Lionel to cut off the passageway, I will. If he makes his save and gets through, I'll immediately stop concentrating so it doesn't impede anyone else's progress. Not sure if the water slows down his movement. Edit: line of sight is pretty tight, actually...
