D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

"Titus! Got it, lets go to work!"

Dandin grinned as he straightened and took off at a run to keep up. With skill, and likely a heaping portion of luck, he could make a good profit and maybe even earn himself some heroic accolades in the process. Nothing better to boost business.

Enseth turns on his helmet lantern, providing a clear illumination in those darkness for the wizards and keeps following Delfen on the city wall without interrupting the Mester, he must know his city better than anyone.

Observing carefully around him, Enseth tries to optimize his usefulness by browsing trough Daggerford military history, searching his Arcane Memory Bank for any deficiency in our defenses that enemies have used in the past, such as diversions, weak walls, old or unstable tower, external sewers access. With those informations in mind, Enseth runs an extrapolation procedure of multiple attack strategies to anticipate the enemy's next actions.

Angis Honack
Daggerthrust Ales
Evening

Angis waved over the hostess of the Silver Shining and told her, “Put it on me tab.” The family gave him a generous stipend that he didn’t often use most of anyway, so he could afford indulging his friends.

When the alarms started sounding, the party broke up quickly. Angis scowled. He didn’t know what the trouble was, but he could probably help. He went up to his rooms to put on his armor and grab his weapons.

Once he was prepared, the dwarf climbed out his window onto a low roof of the inn. He jumped over to the stables and eventually made his way along the rooftops to the wall. He found Tommi and the others and joined the efforts to rescue the outlying homes.

Tommi - human rogue
Lionel Hardcheese - halfling rogue
Dandin - halfling bard
Snake of Trees - tabaxi sorcerer
Enseth - warforged war cleric
Angis Honack - dwarven ranger
Titus - human fighter
Drui Holderhock - dwarven cleric of Tempus

Tommi pat's Lionel's shoulder, as he makes his way around the building to the riverside. And there was Angis, up on the roof!

"The gobs are down here, Angis!" he shout-whispers. But then he sees the dwarf making his way along the wall, and he follows.

Scores of militia lined the wall, being led in prayer to Tempus by the priest - but not a shot had been fired.
~

As soon as Drui sees an opportunity, he turns to Darrondar. His stoic expression denounces a sense of urgency. "I'm finding my way down there. Where should I go?" - he asks directly as he scans the area, trying to reveal an alternative way down and towards the source of the conflict. "I know the gates are shut. Any other way?" - Drui simply assumes that no one would risk raising a gate right now, especially to an unknown man. Not with the risk of an invasion. Still, he felt his responsibilities should take him towards the battle as soon as possible, instead of leaving him to watch the walls while others died in his stead. Militians could do the waiting, for all he cared, and Darrondar was welcome to bless them, if he understood it to be his duty. Drui wanted to join the fight.

[OOC - Drui is looking for passages, ropes or stairs he might use. If he finds one, he'll use it to leave the walls towards the conflict without disturbing the guards at the gate. Drui will do whatever he can to improvise a way to climb down, providing someone with means to destroy his device as soon as he finishes the descent - cutting a rope or kicking a stair, for example.]

Drui & Enseth

Darrondar smiled at Drui, grim but proud. "Yes... yes. You must bring glory to Tempus. My duty is to the Duke, but yours is to our God alone. We must find you a way out there."

For a moment they looked about helplessly, then Darrondar's eyes brightened, "Here comes the Wizard Delfen! He is just the man we need!"

Delfen came to the River Gate Tower with a student wizard and a well-armoured construct. The Wizard and the War Priest had a brief conversation while Drui and Enseth sized each other up. Delfen smiled and nodded, running his fingers across his bald head as if he still had hair.

He turned to Enseth and said, "I doubt that this raid has anything to do with Thay, though I could not swear to it, but you may find the allies you seek for your quest. That and get your gears moving after so many years inactive! I assume you would like to join this brave Dwarf?"

"Affirmative." responded the Shield Guardian. (OOC: I assume!)

The Wizard waved his battle-staff and spoke words in a deeper voice than his speaking voice. He pointed the staff at Drui and Enseth, and then out over the wall. The two volunteers flew over the wall and landed softly beyond the moat. A few of the militia-men cheered and waved at them, while others looked grim - but who could stop a wizard from doing as he wished?

The Others

When Titus, Dandin, Angis, and Snake arrived at the River Gate, Tommi and Lionel were being held for trying to sneak out a seldom-used sally-port hidden in the wall to the right of the gate. The small door had no bridge of it's own, but Tommi had found a long, thin plank. A few guards had looked the other way, but Sherlen Millar had spotted him.

"Tommi, you can't go out there!" she had told him, both because it was her duty and because she was concerned for his safety, in spite of herself.

But Titus' arrival changed everything. The militia captain knew who he was, and when he expressed his intention of leading a group out to protect the innocent river-folk, there was nothing she could do to argue. In truth, she was very happy to be overruled on the subject - there was nothing she would prefer to leading a company of militia out there herself, but she served at the duke's pleasure, and her hands were tied. She nodded and allowed them to proceed, though she gave Tommi a look that said, I don't understand how you, of all people, are part of this group. (A look that doubled when she saw that Lionel Hardcheese was also going.)

From the base of the tower, a few sullen-looking river-men looked up from where they were held by guards. One of them shouted to Titus, "They be on the river! You'll be needin' a boat, an' crew! I can get ya one!"

Titus waved for them to be released to him, and the guards obeyed. The plank was laid across the moat from the sally-port and the sailors bounded across, followed by the halflings and Tommi. The plank creaked under the weight of Titus in his armour, and it positively sank under the weight of Angis, but the small party arrived at the other side of the moat without any unfortunate incident.

"Good luck!" Sherlen Millar called across the moat as her men pulled the plank back inside. She meant it for everyone, but she looked at Tommi as she said it.

Waiting for the wizard to take decisions, Enseth glance down to Drui.

"Nice to meet you, Master Dwarf.
I don't believe we've met. I'm Enseth, Model Number Seven, designed and computerized as a mechanized arcanic defence system.
My current priority is to Fully understand the world."

Delfen turned to Enseth and said, "I doubt that this raid has anything to do with Thay, though I could not swear to it, but you may find the allies you seek for your quest. That and get your gears moving after so many years inactive! I assume you would like to join this brave Dwarf?"

"Affirmative." responded the Shield Guardian.

Flying was quite an experience, despite the fact it was short.
After landing on the the other side, Enseth scoped the battlefield.
"I determine an hostile presence ahead, Master Drui. I advice to proceed with caution."

Then the small party arrived at the other side of the moat.

"Ho, but we have company. Hello companions, I'm Enseth, Model Number Seven, designed and computerized as a mechanized arcanic defence system.
My deductions place the chances at six to one in our favor. But I've never been good with odds.
I'm armed and ready. Wat would be our course of action?"

Drui's startled face is evident. He glances twice at Enseth, trying to figure him out before saying anything. After some moments of silence, he only manages to grunt a few words in return. "Call me Drui." - he mutters, turning towards the others. He reaches for his gear and begins to prepare as he waits for any introductions. They did not attack on sight, a fact that made Drui rule them out as enemies.

"Every damn time..." - Drui chews out, reminding himself of his former experiences in the field as he inspects the others.

At first Dandin was terrified. He'd just volunteered to head out and face life-ending danger without even a proper promise of reward upon success. What was he doing? But now they were outside of the protections of the walls. His friends, a dour dwarf and a brawler lordling. He was in the danger now and the adrenaline had begun to flow. So he instead began to focus on his surroundings.

As he looked around he found himself confronted by a strange sight. A dwarf and a mechanical man floating down to the ground nearby. He was still partially in shock when the construct spoke out to them in a form of common rarely heard outside of older plays or libraries. And this speech seemed formal even for that. It took a moment for Dandin to piece together what the creature had said but then grinned and waved the two over.

"We're off to scare some goblins off and save some people. The more the better I say!... And I'll be happy to sell off the loot for a good price. For a small broker's fee of course..."
