Titus & Enseth

Titus travelled to the blue-roofed tower and spoke to the Wizard Delfen. The Wizard was friendly like his reputation, and was impressed with the young noble's victory from the night before. He agreed to allow Titus to copy up to three rituals of his choice from various books in his library, even going as far as to allow his apprentices to help Titus to find the spells he would take, and to procure some of the necessary materials.

Enseth arrived while Titus was selecting his choices, and spoke at length with the wizard on the subject of Maglubiyet, the goblin's war-god. It appeared the flag was that of some-sort of goblinoid war-host in the conquering god's honour.

OOC: Maglubiyet
Maglubiyet is truly the Conquering God. He stiffens the spines of cowardly goblins. He rouses bugbears from their lazy slumber. He sets the thunderous step of hobgoblin legions. Maglubiyet takes three races and turns them into one people.

In bygone times the goblinoids were distinct from one another, with separate faiths and different customs. Then Maglubiyet came and conquered all who stood before him, mortals and deities alike. Gods and heroes who wouldn’t bend to his will were broken and discarded. He put his foot on the neck of mighty Khurgorbaeyag, bound the will of intractable Hruggek, and forced sadistic Nomog-Geaya to fall in line. What the goblins, the bugbears, and the hobgoblins were before their gods bowed to Maglubiyet no longer matters. Now they are, first of all, followers of Maglubiyet.

On the surface, goblins, bugbears, and hobgoblins are as different as halflings, dwarves, and elves. Each race has its own tendencies, outlook, culture, and gods. But Maglubiyet’s hand joins them together, just as he made all their other gods parts within a greater whole. When one kind of goblinoid encounters another kind, the two groups don’t see one another as strangers or foes. Instead they know that by the fact of their meeting alone, Maglubiyet has commanded them to come together. They know the time has come to form a host.

GM: Titus can copy any three rituals for the price of two.

Snake woke up in the alley a bit stiff and sore from the battle the night before and the celebration afterwards but none the worse for wear. I wonder what the goblins were up to he thought to himself for a moment before his mind turned to other subjects.

It was a beautiful morning perhaps some of the rodents had begun to stir, he thought to himself as he slinked quietly along the wall looking for his morning meal.

Dandin & Snake

While Snake was looking for a good rat for a meal, he ran into Dandin, who was on his way to see the captured boat and the local shipwright. The subject of Sir Isteval's invite came up. Snake was dubious that the Knight would serve anything he would like to eat, but decided that it would be nice to get to know the people he had fought along-side the night before. Spotting a nice-looking rat running along a building's gutter, Snake bade Dandin a good-day and scurried up a drain-spout onto the roof.

Dandin marvelled at the cat-folk and then continued down to the dock, where he found the boat secured to the dock. River-folk nodded to him and waved, and it was clear that the boat would be left alone until someone decided what to do with it. In the light of day, Dandin noted the copious number of arrows protruding from the sides and he wondered how he or anyone else aboard had survived.

Confirming that the design of the boat was a match to some of the others about (including Janos' boat), he asked a dock-man about it. "It's one of ours, all right." the man confirmed, but could say no more about it.

So Dandin went back into town and asked about the Sullerton Shipbuilders. His questions piqued the interest of Nigel Sullerton, one of the matriarch's sons, who accompanied Dandin back down to the dock with a few tools. Removing a few of the goblin's "changes" (shields, spikes, and reinforcements of the prow for ramming were among the things the goblins had done to the boat, much to the shipwright's distaste) they discovered the "signature" (a carved block that contained information that was meaningless to Dandin). Nigel Sullerton and Dandin returned to the Shipbuilders, where they went into an office, and Nigel got a slightly-sawdusty folio down from a shelf, and leafed through it until he said:

"Yes, here we have it: It was built about ten years ago, right here in Sullerton's, by commission for a man named Harry Hardyew out of Julkoun for use of trade up the Shining River to Secomber. She's fallen on hard times to be converted into a goblin raiding-boat, poor thing."

OOC: Places of Daggerford: Sullerton Shipbuilders (Area 30)
The enormous building housing Sullerton Shipbuilders has changed hands and names many times, but its purpose has remained the same for over a century: building boats for river travel. The current owners are the Sullertons, a family of humans who include Wilma Sullerton, matriarch of the clan and current leader of the Carpenters’ Guild. Recent troubles in the area have resulted in less logging, leading to a dwindling of the Sullertons’ wood supplies. Wilma is eager to push the Council of Guilds to do something about it.

"I agree with you there friend. In fact, I'd like to bring her back to her original use. Would it be possible for your company to enact repairs? I have to see what the others want to do first. But if you could provide me with an estimate of costs and approximate value I'll see if I can sell them on the idea."

After the meeting, Dandin shook hands with Nigel and headed back to the Cow, where he pulled out his finest set of clothing, bathed, and prepared for the dinner meeting to come. He even wore just a touch of perfume for the occasion.

Squirrels are evil!

Lionel bustled about the kitchen getting breakfast ready for the guests, he found it soothing to work like this. He supposed it game him the illusion of control, a well ordered kitchen was certainly more relaxing than a chaotic battlefield. But he smiled as he remembered opening his eyes and seeing her. Lionel's mother left him to his devices this morning, she knew his routine and even she knew to just leave him be.

As the day wore on he felt much better and by the dinner service he was back to himself, and his mother was back to herself. "LIONEL!"

Lionel

"Lionel! Help your sisters take these cheese trays over to Sir Isteval's townhouse. Mr. High-and-Mighty is throwing a party. Ha! Hermione says that Tommi told her that you were invited! Something about all the heroes being invited, but I'm sure they got the wrong halfling. Maybe it was that Dandin fellow they saw out there, and not my boy - though he was more likely eating apples and swindling folks, come to think on it." Wilhelmina Hardcheese babbled while putting together multiple beautiful trays of various cheeses.

"I know that you were out meeting a nice lady and not down at the docks getting killed by goblins. Ha! I can see it on your face plain as day! You did meet a nice lady! Now you're blushing!" she brushed her chubby fingers on her apron and smiled. Then remembering how much work there was to do, she thrust the cheese-trays into Lionel's hands before he could speak and ordered, "Off with you now, my handsome boy! Get these trays over quick! The girls will be serving at Sir Knights' party, so I'm down some help in the tavern tonight!"

Ensemble

The guests began to arrive at the townhouse of Sir Isteval, knight of Cormyr. In spite of his seeming wealth, his advancing age, and his old injuries, the knight usually kept no servants. His landlady, an old widow, lived in the basement, and provided him with light meals. But she did not participate in affairs such as this. No, instead he had "borrowed" servants from one of his guests (and hired the Hardcheese family for serving staff).

The door was answered by a finely dressed elf, in servant's attire. The elf was gracious, but spoke very little, a simple greeting then he led the arrivals upstairs to a room with a long table and pulled a chair, indicating that the arrival should sit.

Dandin had secured an estimate for the repair of the captured riverboat. At two-hundred gold, it seemed like a small fortune, but he had discovered that the boat was worth five thousand gold, so it seemed worth it. He hoped he could bring up the subject at some point during the dinner.

Titus was happy to have a few new spells in his ritual-book. His friend Jekk, the dwarf who had managed his bout at the Drill Field, was a friend of Sir Isteval's and had arrived early for the dinner. The two of them were speaking of the details of the battle. Jekk was sorry he had missed it.

Tommi had managed to find a few riverfolk at one of the bars and had started his evening drinking on other people's coin. He was well besotted by the time he had arrived, and was doing his best to behave, having never been to so fancy a dinner in his life.

Lionel was watching out for his friend. His mother had gasped when she heard that he really was invited to the party, and she had found someone to cover for him at the Cow. She was proud of him, he could tell, but she showed it by complaining about how much work she would have to do herself, now that her boy was such an important person.

Enseth had arrived at precisely the appointed time. The stairs creaked under his weight, and the elf at the door arched an eyebrow at his arrival. At the table, he tried hard to make friends with everyone. Too hard, but it was endearing in it's way.

Angis sat on Jekk's left. The elf had sat the dwarves together, presumably expecting some sort of kinship, but Jekk was speaking to Titus, and Angis sat alone, sipping the wine that came with the cheese plate that was on the table when he had arrived. It was good, sure, but it wasn't really what Angis would prefer. The chair on his left was empty, presumably for Drui, but the cleric had not arrived.

Snake had popped out of his chair only moments after being seated. Wine and cheese would not suit him at all, and he sat on a skin rug in the corner of the room next to the fireplace. A small fire was going for warmth, and snake preferred that spot over a hard wooden chair.

OOC: Feel free to have a little conversation before your host comes in.

OOC: Titus chose Alarm, Tensor's Floating Disk, and Unseen Servant, something he casts preemptively whenever he can to have an Unseen Servant do things for him. He cast it before coming to the dinner, and if he has a chance, casts it again later, when it runs out.

Titus' new Unseen Servant, which he calls Wetherby, pulls his chair out for him as he approaches the table, and scoots it in as he sits. It then takes his napkin and lays it across his lap, and pours him a drink, handing him the cup once done. He tries to keep the conversation flowing.
