D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Not wanting to give up what little wow factor he might have, dandinstays under cover with the bear, doing his best to keep it quiet even as the wolves come into the fray.

"It's okay, we're going to give them quite a feight here in a few moments." He whispers calmingly.

Dandin and his bear lingered in the brush, waiting for the perfect time to reveal themselves, while Vairar and the wolves converged. Vairar had the high ground, but he began to slide down the steep embankment as the wolves leapt on him, biting and tearing. Titus fired his hand crossbow, but it went wide of the wolves and the quarrel disappeared into the brush.

Escella sent a bolt of chaotic energy down at an orc, missing, as three of them began to make their way up the slope, aggressively shoving their way through the foliage. The orc with the swords came with them, and he ordered them to throw two volleys of javelins as they worked their way up. They threw them high into the air, and half of them found their way to targets: Sir Darfin was scratched and one of his guards wounded, and Escella took a glancing blow before side-stepping another javelin. Angis ducked two of them.

Tommi lay in wait in the nearby bushes. He could hear the orcs, very close, grunting and cursing.

OOC: Still about half of everyone to go. @Kobold Stew Tommi; @KahlessNestor Angis; @Neurotic Darfin & guards. And a bunch for me, too.

The elves move as a group, closing in on Vairar and the wolves. while the elf lord burns the closer wolf, the guards throw their spears at it. They then set the shields to guards their lord from attacks while he keeps an eye on the orc caster, ready to prevent harm to his group.

For a moment, Tommi considers rushing for the Orc leader with the sword, the one barking orders, but he sees enough of his companions nearby to think twice about it. Instead, he dashes further along, down the slope. He moves quickly through the grass, while the eyes of the orcs are aimed at the larger force above. He hides in the bush at the bottom of the hill, and peers out, hoping he remained unseen.

OOC: Move+Dash to AD25.
Bonus: Stealth: 1d20+4=21.

Round 2

Remaining where he was, trusting the elf to hold the line against the wolves -- but ready to step in to provide the front line should the elf fall -- Angis took aim with his heavy crossbow again at the big orc with the blades by the river, sending another bolt at him, but his shot went well wide of the orc.

Angis and the elves worked their way along the ridge to the same steep path down to the river that Vairar was holding (standing, in spite of the wolves). Sir Darfin sent a bolt of flames that burnt one of the wolves, while his guards threw their spears at the same - one spear went over, and the other one lodged itself into the wolf's ribs, killing the beast.

Angis fired his crossbow at the orc with the swords, but the orc swung his blade in a lightning-fast move, knocking the quarrel aside. All of this activity kept the orcs, who had continued up the steep path, busy while Tommi slipped from bush to bush, through the overgrowth, unnoticed.

Down on the floodplain, the orcs that had been shovelling rocks into the river leaped across their make-shift dam and gathered their weapons, while the one-eyed orc began to chant a blessing of the orc-god Gruumsh.

OOC: Which Darfin will counter-spell?

Dandin was quiet as he listened to the sounds of oncoming battle. He had a feeling that the time had come and then urged his new companion forward, following closely behind as he attempted to direct the bear's ire upon the orcs just as they came around the bend.

Sir Darfin smiles coldly as his magic disrupts the shaman's pathetic attempt. Still, it may be prudent to conserve higher-order magic for something more serious than cantrips of newly ascended one-eye.

He prepares for the next casting of the creature and when it comes blasts it with missiles of force.

"Eluven, go, help Vairar." Sir Darfin orders

Guards draw spears again. One advances on the wolf and stabs it from behind elf mercenary holding the point.

Short:
Darfin readies the action: magic missile the shaman
Guard 1 advances and hits the wolf for 6 damage

Darfin readies the action:
Magic missiles on the shaman: 3D4+3 = [1, 1, 2]+3 = 7

Guard 1 moves to AG37
