[IC] SWS/DnD5, Star Wars the Old Republic – A Gathering Darkness

The team spreads out a bit and this Gand extends its' vocoder too Thirteen again. "Dear me, I hope they are not too violent or primitive. Dear me" and then again the droid starts a long series of clinks and hoots and high pitched whistle like sounds. He mostly looks at Jihahna for what he might be saying.

Whatever it is, it seems to work better this time. A lone Kwi steps out of the underbrush not far from where Kacela is advancing with open arms. It clicks a rapid set of noises to which Thirteen translates as "Outsiders, you. Why here? Many outsiders bring fire and pain. We bring pain back."

Thirteen then mutters to himself "Oh dear or dear, they are violent"

"No," Kacela said. "They are speaking. That's good."

"Tell them we are here to stop the other outsiders from hurting them. We are here to help them."

To amplify the message, she concentrated on the flow of the Force, and attempted to send a simple message from her will to the mind of the Kwi who was speaking.

We friends.

(Use the Force - Telepathy [roll0])

Thirteen makes another set of clicks and chirps to the Kwi which watches the droid and Kacela with some weariness but it does not move away or make any hostile move. It simply stares with its very cold lizard like eyes at the two...

It is then that Kacela reaches out with the Force, strong in her knowledge that she can convey peace and welcoming thoughts to the native... and she feels a hole inside the Kwi like nothing she has ever experienced before!!! While she can sense that the Kwi is alive and intelligence, there is no connection to the Force! It has been unnaturally severed in someway. It is like trying to reach out with the Force to talk with a droid, she could never do that either. It leaves her feeling cold and unnatural. Who or what could have caused such a tragedy??

The Kwi stares back at the young Padawan with what might be mild curiosity.

GM: As you rolled a natural 20 I will give Kacela a bit extra info. Basically she can tell that somehow not only this Kwi, but the species has had their connection to the Force severed in someway. You cannot use mind-affecting Force abilities, good or bad, against them. You could still grab one with Move Object, but you otherwise your Force powers have no affect on them. Kacela gets a vague idea that this happened to the Kwi many thousands of years ago

After a few moments the Kwi speaks back to Thirteen and the droid translates "Trust you not, but no pain or death... yet. Prove yourself maybe you will. Others of tribe leading outsiders to swamps. Bad fliers there. Attack, maybe kill outsider. Those not, you make go away. If you do, you prove your will. Maybe then we talk more..."

When the lone Kwi emerges into the clearing, the gand simply returns his breather to its proper place, wincing at the burn of the bit of O2 that did get in.

It reaches down to her belt and starts the holorecording on her datapad.

whirr click "Predatory," she judges after the Kwi's offer of shared slaughter -- though is that approval in its stance?

She gestures to GE3-T3 to please translate for him: click whirr-hum jumble click "The Kwi's enemy is stronger than they know." jumble drone, mumble clacketty clack hum "If these ones are killed, stronger ones will come." jumble drone, mumble drone jumble mumble click "And if those ones are killed, then the jungle will burn as far as the eye can see."

Even from this far away the compact alien has to look up to gaze at the 10-feet-tall blue warrior, seemingly fascinated by its form -- or maybe it's that agile tongue amid the black sharpness of all those teeth?

OOC: Trying to keep track of the other Kwi hiding in the trees at the same time: Perception, with advantage _: 2D20.HIGH(1)+4 = [7, 1]+4 = 11. Multitasking is HARD!

Jihahna takes a couple of steps forward, hands raised to about shoulder height. She looks at the Kwi, an eyebrow raised, her hair falling in front of her eyes again, but this time, she does not clear it from her face out of concern a sudden movement could frighten it. She sits down somewhere closer depending on the Kwi's reaction. Again, she addresses the droid, "Thirteen, they are in fact far less violent than you would assume. The spears were a warning, the kwi deliberately missed. I used to know a lot of people who would shoot first and ask questions later and they were apparently 'civilised'."

She turns her head slightly to the droid. "If anything, living tribally, probably makes them have more respect for life. I think you should start recording all of this if you haven't already."

Jihahna turns her head to the Gand and nods in agreement before addressing the Kwi. "Thirteen, please translate; I agree with what this one has said," She points to the Gand, "that your enemy will simply grow after defeat, but I am happy to fight for your cause as I believe others will be."

Jihahna takes a breath, "Just know that there are many outsiders in the stars. They form many tribes. There are as many tribes in the stars as there are trees here. Our tribes are not all united though. Chaos and anger and greed divide us above. Here there is something the Czerka tribe wants. Czerka tribe digs here with greed. Czerka tribe used the Kwi as animals to work for them."

Jihahna took another, this time deep breath. "Czerka tribe is very powerful, spread throughout many stars. When the Kwi faught back, Czerka tribe did not care, Czerka tribe called to the stars and gave resources to... 'Tribeless warriors' in exchange for services, to kill the Kwi. Those who you would ask us to fight are these tribeless. Be warned, once they have been removed, Czerka tribe will simply send more tribeless and in greater numbers. We will ALL need to act swiftly to stop that."

Jihahna looks in the Kwis direction, but gestures slowly to the others as she speaks. "We come from the Republic tribe. Republic means 'All voices Unite'. Republic tribe strong like Czerka tribe, makes rules and laws for all star tribes to follow, for fair treatment of all self aware beings. Republic wants fair treatment for all species, send us here to learn about Kwi, prove Kwi are not animals. Prove the Kwi are self aware, Give Republic tribe what it needs, stop Czerka tribe. One moment whilst we confer with each other".

She addresses the others and speaks. "Sounds fair to me guys, if we have some Kwi assistance, we can probably mop up the current mercs, what do you all think?" She turns back and looks the Kwi directly in the eyes now she waits for her companions and the Kwi to reply.

Early on, the gand leans over to the droid: cruck drone clicketty whirr hum "Do not translate this just yet, please GE3-T3." Then she waits for it to end, growing more and more uncomfortable with each sentence.

jumble drone mumble click "Jihahna Darut, we have to talk."

Jihahna turns to the Gand with a smile, which fades quickly to a look of slight embarrassment when she sees its awkward stance. "Oh, gee, i'm really sorry, i've just jumped straight in there."

OOC: Jihahna will comply with whatever the request of this gand may be.

jumble drone mumble clicketty low-hum "Jihahna Darut is probably right to trust," he says after a beat. But... guttural click jumble drone "This timid one does not know the Kwi," click jumble whirr "or why the Kwi war," click cruck mumble whirr "or why Czerka Mining wars."

The insectile one dips her head and gestures: crick CLICK "Forgive." The awkwardness has not left its limbs.

"Not to mention," Kacela says with a little smile, "I think that speech...as well intentioned as it was...may be a bit too much to take in at once. Let us go with them and see what help they require from us. As of now, there are too many uncertainties to make any but the most basic of plans."
