Ideas for a drow.

I am not sure if this prestige class was in 3.0e. But Dark Hunter (from Complete Warrior) can increase the range of Darkvison. Drow something x/Dark Hunter 4+ should have Darkvision 180 ft. Even a character with low-light vision using bullseye lantern cannot see that far in the dark. Make that drow an archer or a spellcaster. Let him (or her) lurk in darkness and use sniping/hit and away tactics. It will be really scaly.

So, not to hijack the thread but...

Druzzy't (or whatever) has ruined dual wielding scimitars forever. The obvious dervish build is finesse-scimitar-dualweilder, but try and bring that to a game and all you hear is "so you ripped off Dryzzet did ya?". C'mon, just because you weilding to frikkin' scimitars doesn't mean your trying to rip off some overscripted dark elf!

Sorry, now back to the thread, I think the rogue/warlock idea is cool, or maybe even a scout/warlock. I move out from cover, EB you for lots, and move to somewhere else. Oh, did I mention that you can't see because o the incantations, and make a quick fort save...

The drow racial abilites and weapons scream for rogue-shadowdancer-assassin.

So don't do it.

I say go bard, and never look back. Only other class you need is Drow Paragon.

What campaign setting are you playing in?

If their background isn't established, take a look at 'Plots and Poison'. Lots of good fluffy stuff, but I'd be careful about some of the feats (I'm a drow with two double shortswords. FEAR ME!!). It takes the worship of the spider goddess in a new direction (she has eight undergods, one for each school of magic), and the book as a whole tends to deal with the darker aspects of the civilization ('Dominant' and 'Submissive' as PrC's !? :uhoh: ).

I must third the Drow Warlock, if you can use (or if you are the GM, do use) the Warlock class from Complete Arcane. Forget the Rogue angle, and go straight Warlock and kick those PCs ass! :D

If that's not do-able for you, then I agree with the Drow Bard build.

-I wouldn't drop the rogue angle. Combining invocations such as darkness and devil's sight can really give you an edge in sneak attacks. Additionally, by using hideous blow, you can combine your sneak attack damage with your eldritch blast damage.
-While I haven't run one myself, I did see a higher level (11th or 12th, I'm not sure) pc run one of these characters in combat doing 7d6 damage on one strike (1d6 shortsword, 3d6 sneak attack and 3d6 eldritch blast damage through hideous blow). It was really pretty nasty.

Male or female drow?
female Rog 3 / cleric 14
male Rog 3 / wizard 14 or pure wizard with archmage prc.
Rogue X/ Fighter X / Barbarian 1 / Assassin Y but not the typical Dex fighter but a high str is recommended :)
or drow fighter / weaponmaster
drow fighter / master of chains

or go the good old

Drow(male) Wizard 13 Archmage5
focus on Necromancy(finger of death, horrid wilting, enervation) and transmutation(polymorph, slow/haste, flesh to stone/disintegrate) with the 3.0 rules your spell DC's will be awsome

assuming int 16 +2 racial +4 lvl, +6 item = 28, with school focus, and greater schoolfocus, spell power +1 +2 and +3 your spells in necromancy and transmutation will be 10 +9 +10 + spell level. That is a DC 38 Wail of the Banshee!, of whitch you can dish out 2 per round with no chance of hurting your party members, (mastery of shaping)

The bard idea is nice too but in my opinion bard did not work in 3.0 mechanicly.
