So from what im reading it lowers the lvl on each feat aplied to the spell or does it lower the lvl after all feats r applied?

and if it does the prior, does that mean taht i can have every spell i prepare use all the feats that only have a +1 lvl with no penalties?

from what I can gather -
1. each application of the feat
2. yes

I don't have the acutal entire class in front of me. I read this at the game shop - and it is as unbalancing as all hell...

And I thought 2e psions were bad... sheesh.

You don't own Magic of Faerun yet? That's a pretty slick little book, IMO. What gives? Did you not like it?

Knock the l out of slick and youve got it perfectly.

Let the munchkinism stay in the land of forgotten munchkinism.

My players have long known that the FR line of products are strictly verboten IMC. I DO idea raid the place. About the only thing that works is "Regional" feats.

Beyond that - every single friggin class is breakable...

And the sheer power level...

Szazz Tam ...
"A quickened maximized energy drain"??
at least He hasn't figured out quickened maximized time stop...

Actually, you are wrong about the +1 level metamagic feats. The Improved Metamagic description says that the minimum is +1 metamagic, so those do not get improved by your Improved Metamagic ability.

1) Yes, but many DM rule that you can use that only once per Metamagic feat (so if you cast an Empowered Maximized spell -normally +6- you get a +4 Level, but if you cast a double Empowered Maximized spell - normally a +8, you get a +6 instead of a +5)

2) Not at all, read the entry "This can't reduce an increase to less than one level", so all the Metamagic Feats that give a +1 spell level are not affected

Anyway, IMHO, is absolutely futile to ban the MoF... ...if you want to impose balance, than you have to ban also DotF, TaB, FRCS, quite an amount of spells, the Cleric core class etc etc, so it's much better to talk to the players and decide one by one every PrC, spell, or whatever else... ...besides, it's a very well written book if Faerun interests you...

Cute. Have you considered actually playtesting the class, or obtaining input from someone who has?

The fact that you answered eisgowen's questions incorrectly also disturbs me... Caliber and Veldrane are correct that the Improved Metamagic ability cannot reduce the effective level cost of a metamagic feat below +1. Metamagic feats that impose NO effective level cost, such as energy substitution and eschew materials, still may be applied at no cost.

eisgowen: Really, the only somewhat unbalancing application of the Improved Metamagic ability is to use it to multiple-Empower spells. Empower (along with Extend) is one of the only really powerful metamagic feats to begin with (the others are useful, but not so powerful); at +1 level cost, the feat does become a bit sick. However, given that the incanatrix has to be 13th level (Wiz5/Inc8) to even use this ability, I wouldn't worry about it overmuch.

Read the Errata, too

The errata for the book also says that you can't use the ability to cast a spell you wouldn't be able to cast without the ability. For example, a 12th level sorcerer couldn't use it to empower his cone of cold, because he doesn't have any 7th level slots. Once he gets to 14th level, he could use a 6th level slot to cast an empowered cone of cold.

As errata'd, I agree that the Incantatrix is powerful, but its requirements and restrictions don't unbalance it as much as people tend to think that it does.
