incantrix improved metamagic?

The multiple empower thing makes it whack unbalanced. They should of simply said the -1 one level comes from the total metamagicked bonus. So an empowered, maximized would cost +4 spell levels not +5. Still a huge benefit, to be able to empower things at +1 level, maximize things at +2 or quicken them at +3, but not a lamely unbalanced as being able to lose multiple levels since you stacked multiple feats on one spell.

And yes I have playtested it in my game, and I firmly beleive the playtesters screwed up massively in playtesting this product if they were trying to balance it with core D&D or even the class splat books.

Knock the l out of slick and youve got it perfectly.

Let the munchkinism stay in the land of forgotten munchkinism.

My players have long known that the FR line of products are strictly verboten IMC. I DO idea raid the place. About the only thing that works is "Regional" feats.

Beyond that - every single friggin class is breakable...

And the sheer power level...

Szazz Tam ...
"A quickened maximized energy drain"??
at least He hasn't figured out quickened maximized time stop...

Uh, i felt most of the PrC's, other than Incantrix, were pretty lame and weak. They might be taken for RP reasons, but War Wizard is the only thing i wopuld consider for increasing my powers, and thats only effective in special circumstances.

Other than that I think this is the best d20 book i've bought. Its a far better arcane book than Tome and Blood IMO. The new rules for mage duels, and crossroads, and lodges, and all kinds of neat things just rock. A few of the spells were pretty mighty, but with clarifications they are not much better than some PHB spells. As far as being FR specific, i hate FR but its not that hard to change the name of the Harper Mage (or whatever) to Karmekian Bardic College Graduate (or whatever).

The special materials for magic items is one of my favorite things as well, and the additional armor/arms enchantments really add to the players flexibility. Players can REALLY customize their magic items now and make them their own, like a Frezzek's magically treated copper mace with an emerald head instead of just a plain jane Rod of Leadership. Its just cooler.

.

I sometimes mix up which prestige classes came from core FR, and which from this book, but I do remember some really lame ones in this book. Though I don't remember thinking any of them were underpowered, except maybe the make killer whose pre-reqs knocked it out of contension for any wizard I'd likely make. But I do think some feats, many spells, and some items were way overpowered. Some I think were put in for continuity from earlier editions, even though they knew they weren't balanced, either that or they were blind as a bat to how these things can far to easily be abused.
