So did they sew/suture part of your mouth over the area where they removed your wisdom tooth to protect it while it heal on its own?

Yup. I did get to eat before and after though...tepid chicken broth is...nasty. Oh well. I'll need to find some yummier things in the near future.

I had mine out about 2 years ago. I have a small doctor phobia (one doc called it the "white coat syndrome") and the person that was doing the procedure prescdribed me two valium, one for the night before and one about an hour before the procedure. I was knocked out for actual procedure (and due to the valium was less nervous on the day of the procedure than for the consultation appointment). For the procedure itself I was knocked out, so it went it went well. Recovery wasn't much fun, pain medication and lots of applesauce, ice cream and mashed potatoes...

It's been years since I had mine removed. In fact, I still have one that should come out, but I'm chicken...

Had the two bottom ones done at the same time, and that was when I discovered my "allergy" to percadan, the painkiller they gave me for the next couple of days. Apparently, I don't process the stuff, so the painkilling effect was wearing off, but when I took another, it was causing an overdose. My blood pressure went through the floor, and I was so cold and sick I thought I was going to die. Fortunately, the effect wore off and I threw the pills in the toilet and haven't taken such things since.

I just used tylenol after the last one, and that was fine.

The good news is that the suture is there for one week.

The bad news is that area is still too sensitive.

Apparently my wisdom teeth have come in witout a problem. According to three dentists they do not need to come out. No impacted molars, no decay, no good reason to remove them. Now I am just waiting for the one that says "Oh my god you have not had your wizdom teeth out? That needs to be done.... now." At which point I throw dentist Con and get seven other opinions. You are not pulling my teeth for a buck. And it will be expressly stated when I ask for the next opinion that none of the first through seven dentists will actually get to do the job. That job goes to the eighth dentist who did not give me his opinion.

I have all of mine too, and I get this a lot, until I explain that two of my other molars were removed when I was 16 to make room for them. Dentists view wisdom teeth as some sort of natural subsidy. Fortunately, after 30 they tend to assume you've already had it done so it's not the first thing they ask. "Do you have all your wisdom teeth?" "Yes." "OH YEAH! [Ka CHING]"

I must be developmentally delayed - I'm over 40, and at my last visit to the dentist, she told me my wisdom teeth are finally ready to come out. Not looking forward to this at all... :(

I trust my dentist, and one of them is starting to impact on the x-ray, so I believe her.

I have a bleeding disese.When I was out for the op;I bled so much.That for a week vomiting,pissing,passing out,mostly passed out.elforcelf. :(

I had all my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 19. Only two were impacted, but I went ahead and had all four yanked. Was gassed pretty good, and as others have posted, I was comparing the relative merits of the gas to the, erhhmm, non-legal narcotics I used at the time with the Dental Assistant, when next thing I knew, I was being lead away from the chair, sans teeth.

Went to work that night at the pizza-joint that employed me, no problems what-so-ever. Even smoked my allotment of cigs and had several beers.

I can only hope that my imminent hip replacement goes as well.

I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 16 or so. They knocked me out and I was told after I woke up that the teeth came out easily, although they had to crack one to get it out. I had pizza for dinner that night and never had any problems or pain beyond a very mild throbbing every once in a while. Sounds like I was pretty lucky.

My dad had his out at about 46-47, so you're not all that late.
