Trailer Lanterns | Official Teaser | HBO Max

This is definitely getting… mixed reactions. A re-positioning of Green Lantern as True Detective is not exactly what I was expecting, but I’m still keen to see it.

This looks ... interesting and yet not quite what I want from the Green Lanterns. I want more cosmic, spacey stuff, grounded Lanterns seems like a round peg and a square hole.

Based on that trailer, I'd watch the naughty word out of this even if there was no ring use.
Yeah, where I'm at is that this looks like a potentially excellent gritty drama about small-town corruption and unconventional heroes, that would work much better without them being Green Lanterns.

In fact, I hope there's some reticence in involving cosmic level poweer like the ring...when dealing with small town stuff.

I was never a fan of the spandex neon colors that most things that the Green Latern(s) were part of. And I wonder how much I would have liked a similar TV series. But this seems interesting enough, might lay a good foundation for folks that have the same perspective on GL as me...

I also was never a fan of the Superman movies, sure they were Iconic, but Superman grew on me wit the TV series of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and especially Smallville. The later, which ironically I started watching without knowing it was Superman, I initially thought it was Superman with the serial-numbers filed off...

I'm really wondering how they're going to play this. they're going far more serious than the majority of Gunn's stuff has been and the manifestations of the ring's power are one of the more hokey powers in DC. In the recent Superman they could lean into that. In a neo noir I'm not so sure.

Yeah, hard to imagine a villain being countered using giant oven mitts in this one.

Nope. Wasn't looking like my kind of show, so I skipped Peacemaker, and likely anything else Gunn touches.
Not a fan of his at all.
(Yes, I am an obnoxious snob and opinionated jerk)
I mean, Gunn runs the movie DC universe at this point, so you are probably out of luck.

I will be very interested to know what the Corps actually is in this thing. Superman did not tell us anything, really -- it just gave us Guy as a member of the Justice Gang. It suggests that the Corps is pretty hands off if a member can be recruited by Maxwell lord to basically be a superhero influencer.

The fact that Hal introduces himself as such ("I'm Hal Jordan, Green Lantern") suggests he has been active for a while and at least expects people to know who he is (although my gut says the follow up is "Who?" or something-something Guy Gardner). My guess is that Hal is looking to retire and he is training Stewart because there are always 2 lanterns per sector (Guy being the other one).

That's me too. It's not what I want, but I'm willing to be proven wrong, and ... I like Kyle Chandler, despite not really watching Friday Night Lights or most of his stuff, lol. And the trailer sold me on this Hal and John vibe, so I'm intrigued
