Green Lantern's most celebrated run was the Hard Traveling Heroes era where Hal and Green Arrow hitchhiked across the USA in the 1970s, bickering with each other and solving problems.

Tastes vary, but this is drawing from a source that produced a number of legendary stories.

I also expect that, if this does well, the budget will be increased in the second season and they'll head off into space. But from a studio budgeting perspective, the last Green Lantern film made $219 million worldwide against a budget of $200 million. WB/Discovery was not going to throw Game of Thrones budgets at this project at this point. Honestly, it's kind of a miracle that we're getting this.

My experience with GL is limited to the animated stuff, but GL in Justice League and on earth was always "fine." But then when you go out to the cosmos and deal with being space cops and a planet that has a GL ring and all that science fantasy/fiction stuff... that was different and fun.

But maybe that's too expensive or whacky to start with?

The Green Lantern movie made $19 million in profit on a $200 million investment. There was just no way WB's money folks were going to pay for the FX budget sending Green Lanterns to space would have required at this point.

If the first season of Lanterns does well -- and I bet it does -- I can see them opening the budget up a bit and having a second season that adapts Far Sector, which is about a mega-space station.

And then if that does well, everything's on the table.
