Dang..... So when I visit England... Should I take my Boy Scout Knife out of my purse? Heck, I just used it at the movies to open a particularly naughty bag of Skittles.
It depends on its size, if the blade is fixed or folds (and if it's spring activated), what the knife looks like and what your intentions are.

If it's a penknife with a blade of 3" or less, you should be OK. If the blade is fixed and/or longer than 3", you have to have good reason for having it with you in a public place, e.g. you need it for work. If it has a spring-activated mechanism or doesn't look like a knife, you can only have that at home, not in a public place, and you can't trade these, i.e. you can keep them at home if you already have them.

A friend of mine decided to give the cop a bit of "plastic surgery"....

If any of that, it's a safe bet it won't leave a US airport (or you either...), much less get to the destination in the UK.....

You'll think differently when you're caught in an alley and there's two ways out: through the guy with the switchblade and the guy with the Klingon blade.
I'd take my chances with the guy with the Klingon sword, since he's probably fat and gets winded easily.

It'd be great to see Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons fight with one :)

More like hilarious as hell. Moreso than that cop guy trying to fight with one.

There's a Klingon ship somewhere in Texas that holds regular Bat'leth tournaments.

<plays the Star Trek "combat theme">

The items you can only have in your home and can't be traded, can't legally be brought into the UK. However, all the other knives can be in your check-in luggage from the US.

Note that knives of any kind including those you can carry with you in the UK can't be taken on your person or in carry-on luggage on any flight to or from the UK or most anywhere else. When I travel to or from the UK, I put my penknife in my check-in luggage.
