Level 6 smackdown

Got it. 3/day, reduce the cost of a metamagic by one.

So, it's pretty much worthless IMHO. Better to get another Energy Sub feat (and chain them for -1 level each time).

6th level feats (for an Elf racial sub generalist with 2 flaws):
1/ Quicken Spell, [Scribe Scroll] -- 2 Flaws: Empower Spell, Energy Sub (Electricity)
3/ Energy Sub (Cold)
5/ Energy Sub (Sonic)
6/ Arcane Thesis (Fireball)

Round 1: Quickened (+3) Cold (-1) Electric (-1) Sonic (-1) Fireball / 3rd level slot; Empowered (+1) Cold (-1) Electric (-1) Sonic (-1) Fireball / 1st level slot
Round 2: Repeat.
Round 3: Repeat.

Of course, at 7th level you get a few 4th level spell slots, which you promptly fill with Quickened Empowered triple-Substituted fireballs... :uhoh:

(And this is why we do not allow negative metamagic spell level adjustment...)

But what form is the final energy damage in? As you are only substituting the energy, not admixing it?

I don't either. Note that in my example, Empower and Enervate (both normally a +2 level increase) are reduced to a +0 level increase, by substracting 1 level each for Arcane Thesis and Metamagic School Focus. They could not be reduced below +0.

Never took the Admixture feat; that feat isn't worth it until it's not competing with Quicken for my top-level spell slots. Final energy type is Sonic (or choose Acid if Sonic is not a valid Energy Substitution in your game).

Right, but if you do that, you're using MMSF twice (once for Empower and once for Enervate). You can use MMSF a total of three times each day. So your combo works once, not three times in a row.

I thought all of the "reduces level added by metamagic" feats had a stipulation that they cannot reduce the level adjustment to less than 1? IDHMBIFM, but I believe that was the case -- specifically to avoid the problems with every spell being Empowered like this.
