Lost (09/28) spoilers

I wasn't so crazy about the 'repeating' viewpoints in this second episode either. I'll agree with the comment that they should have made a 2 hour premiere and combined these two episodes into something more cohesive. Still, it was fun to watch.... I can't say I've seen a really bad episode of Lost yet....

A couple of thoughts:

(1) The "what did one snowman say to the other" reference...didn't Hurley ask/say that as a joke when he was checking the passengers against the manifest in Season 1 (along with "Man, no one ever laughs at that joke")?

(2) When Michael gave the polar bear to Walt in the park, the guy that Ethan killed in Season 1 can be seen walking in the background with backpack on (Sam/Scott/Steve?).

(3) When Michael is in the lawyer's office, you can see the Twin Towers out the window.

(4) I heard speculation on the radio this AM that an older model, beat up brown Pontiac is in almost every car scene...the car that hits Michael, Kate's getaway car, etc.

I didn't like Episode 2 as much as 1, but just because now my brain is screaming for more answers...

Maybe my original post on this topic was unclear.

Do I think that there are other survivors from the tail section of the plane. Yes

Are they the others Rousseau keeps going on about I don't beleive so.

I agree, the use of us, they, them, the others, it, brother, whisphers, visions...you never know what group is taking about who, what, whom. I just think the people in the tail section could be locking up one of their own.

Just some initial thoughts before I go back and rewatch the episode in high def with my finger hovering over the pause button.

"What did the snowman say to the other snowman?"

--Let's chill. ;)

I've read in a couple of different places the wacky corporate logo is a swan in the center? Obviously surrounded by the I Ching.

Well, the net was obviously wrong about the shoes, they were Locke's, shows you not to trust everything you read on the net.

Des' jumpsit has the logo as well. Speaking of Des he must be getting resupplies from somewhere, the stuff in his pantry was pretty new looking. Plus if we are talking years here, some of the jared up stuff wouldn't have lasted that long.

Des' disease theory jibes with Danielle's, which then causes us to ask, did the folks that went through the 'Dark Country' to the Black Rock get infected?

If the countdown issues a warning every time it gets close to zero, Des never gets much more then an hour of sleep at a time, which goes a long way to explain his bizarre behaviour.

My theory is that the island is a nexus, for some reason. The reason is, most likely, supernatural...but the writers have been very careful to alude to the supernatural, rather than make it established fact. At some point, they're going to have to explain certain mysteries (of which the beast and Ethan are the most profound) in definitive terms...but I don't think we're there yet. I also think that there are several 'mysteries' at work, and the problem is that you can't make a universal theory to explain them all, because they aren't all together. For example: there are clear signs that things have been happening on the island for longer than many of the people there have been alive. The question is: how long? I sincerely doubt the Blackrock is directly related to the organization DHARMA, for example.

I suspect there are some events that occured because of other events, some of which occured in complete ignorance of the other. Since most of the potentially supernatural events have occured in situations where they could be reasoned away (at times of exhaustion and extreme emotional distress), we don't know the metaphysics of the show yet.

I expect that those folks who aren't happy with the show's pace will be the first ones to walk away when they get their answers. From what has been mentioned by the producers and actors, answers are forthcoming. They apparently recognized that they hadn't reveled a lot last year, and they claim they'll rectify that to some degree early this season.

Personally, I really liked this episode. Except for the fact that I think that Michael is being a real ass, in any case.

How about:

(A.) The island has been grabbing people for years, and the 815 surivors are just the lastest batch.

(B.) The accumulation of surivors from past incidents, not including Danielle, are together "the Others..."

(C.) ...and are likely all infected with what ever plague Danielle talked about and...

(D.) ...and a side effect of this is blue-gray eyes (I am doggedly sticking to this theory 'cause it's mine).

(E.) The island was supposed to be home to some sort of research facility, but this failed becuase...

(F.) The island is also home to a strange dharma/karma effect where no one gets away (aside from dying) until they have made up for past sins.

(G.) The magic number is the Devil's social security number (Oh, alright, I'm not so certian about that last one.)

Obviously, when Desmond asks "Are you him?" to Locke, Locke isn't really the "him" that he's been waiting for.

Wouldn't it be cool if it was Hurley?

Why didn’t Desmond notice Locke and Boone (before he snuffed it - I hope the writers kill more people this year.) screwing with the hatch?

The little glass in the hatch door was very small. I imagine it would not be easy to see through, especially with only that little mirror at the bottom.

He probably did notice something, though- remember a light shone through it once when Locke was trying to break in.

How did Jin get to the island so far ahead of Michael and Sawyer that he had to time be both captured and then escape from the “Others.”

I wondered the same thing, and if these are indeed the same "Others" that kidnapped Walt (which they might not be), it's my guess that he clung on to the boat when it took off. He did dive in the water, and I'm guessing he's probably a good swimmer (his dad is a fisherman).

Either way (whether they're the Others or someone else), I'm going to guess he clung onto the boat when it took off. If they aren't the Others, maybe he couldn't hold on for long enough, and swam the rest of the way to the island, where the survivors found him.

I'm willing to bet that the individuals referred to by Jin as the "others" are the survivors from the rear of the plane. As seen in the season finale, "the others" have weapons far superior to the clubs shown at the end of this last episode.

It makes sense to me that they would have formed their own hierarchy, have had their own strange discoveries, and would view the sudden arrival of a stranger as a potential threat.

I heard snowman.
