GTS 2004: Haven to go D20 Modern in a Big Way, Fantasy Campaign News, & More
Posted 2004-03-18 00:24:41 by dansivils

Dan Sivils Reports: We got a chance to talk to Louis Porter Jr. of Louis Porter Design here at GTS. He gave us a scoop on the next few things he is working on. The first item of note is that Haven: City of Violence is going to be redone as a D20 Modern setting. The Book is scheduled to be released in October of this year. A premier designer closely involved with d20 Modern. Louis could not give us the details on just who is involved just yet, but after our talk we did see Louis talking with some of the Game Mechanics folks. Louis said, "...I want Haven: City of Violence d20 to be the Waterdeep for D20 Modern". All existing Haven books will be sold via PDF going forward.

d20 & Open Gaming Publishers

A forum for communicating with publishers using the d20 System and/or the Open Gaming License. This is also the only forum for posting press releases. Please keep general D&D/d20 discussion to the appropriate forums, above.

Secondly, I honestly hope you remove your d20 Modern bashing ads from your other products as you do this. Otherwise you might be a bit of a hypocrite on that one. Of course, I do find it kind of funny that CoV ends up converting to a system it bashed once before...wish they would have gone Spycraft. I like modern too much.

This spam-vertisement reminds me that I need a free pdf preview of Haven as much as I need a kiss on the _______!

On the flip side, how come no one picks on Vigilance for his constant "spaming" on this subforum? I can remember when you couldn't post a thread about d20 super hero stuff without him name dropping his product ... several times.

For anybody who's trying to be the "spam" police, you guys are slacking. Either give everyone equal treatment, or say nothing at all.

Probably because Louis P has a special place in our hearts, his place is right between hypocrit politicians and pushy car dealers. This guy profilated himself in the past as one of those "D20 is evil incarnate" people, if you can find one of his old rants go read it, it's bound to make you look at him in a whole different light. Now he's seeing that D20 isn't going the way of the dodo and that there might actually be some money in it for him, suddenly he's a D20 'publisher'. I just don't have any confidence in someone that can flip his 'ideals' so suddenly when money is involved... Especially when he pays his writers/artist/editors so damn little.

I for one welcome anyone into the d20modern arena.
The system despratly needs support and there arent nearly enough companies publishing stuff using it for you guys to be knocking anyone. Even if they were at one point using negative propaganda to push their own product.

If anything he may have "seen the light" and for that i'm thankfull.

More d20modern for us all.

Stop gripin, and take it with a grain of salt.

As for what he pays his writers, I have no idea about that. Though i've answered his post in the Open Call Forum for writers and we'll see what develops.

I think You'll find me plugging DarkLore on any low magic/D20M for fantasy thread and Etherscope similarly for Steam Punk :).

But seriously, I think there's a difference between throwing a plug into an already existing discussion, and as a consumer if there was a product out there that I'd not heard of I'd be happy to be informed about it where relevant. What isn't the done thing, IMO, is to post straight to these boards with a press release, which has a forum all of its own, and you'll probably get more coverage posting it as news anyway.

Cheerio,

Ben, Malladin's Gate

Plus... I've also got a D20 Modern product coming out next month. Some news to follow shortly...

(I'm pushing it aren't I :)).

Cheerio,

Ben
