Trailer Madame Web | Official Trailer

Looking at how few people did any kind of research into the Madame Web movie before dumping on it is frustrating.

It's a Spiderman prequel, it's why Madame Web is young and healthy, it's why the Spider Babes don't have powers yet (although we get glimpses of a future were they do, and they defeat the villain with them, hence why he wants to kill them before that happens).

No one seems to understand this movie is a thriller, and us setting up a story line from Spiderman.

BTW according to what r/marvelstudiosspoilers considers a reliable source from rumours at 74% reliability, Spiderman 4 is going to lean harder into SSU, despite Tom Hollands Spiderman being MCU, with the possible goal of merging the MCU and SSU together eventually. So this movie could be very important.

what research? This version has been created from scratch really
in the comics Madam Web is blind from birth and while I can accept they're presenting the character before she developed her paralysis (caused by a medical condition not an accident) it might have been nice to see a Superhero with a disability doing cool stuff. I suppose we do have Daredevil and Echo to fill that niche though.

And Makkari from the Eternals. She is also deaf. And Black Bolt may as well be mute, since he can never talk or he will hurt or kill people. And classic Professor X. No use of his legs and stuck in a wheelchair.

Sure they have done research - into the track record of the people involved in making the movie. And to say it aint great is a superheroic understatement. Reputation matters, even if this movie is good it is still going to have a massive mountain to climb.

As for the character herself, that's irrelevant. No one had heard of Iron Man either. It just means that Sony have a clean slate to do whatever they want with it.

Oh, and a bit of clunky dialogue from the trailer is already getting memed: The ‘Madame Web’ Meme, Explained

It's important to note that they kind of split Julia Carpenter (probably the best know Superhero in the movie) in two.

Her stint as Madame Web, which besides being blind is able bodied, after the first one died, got mixed in with the OG Madame Web, Cassandra Web, including her jacket. The other half of Julia Web, 2nd Spiderwoman/Aracne, is played by Syndey Sweeney and is in her iconic black and white uniform, with her OG powers.

I suspect the 1st Spiderwoman, Jessica Drew is being reserved for the MCU, that us why she doesn't appear in this movie, leaving them with the B, C, and D versions of Spiderman/girl (but they each still have their cool stories lines).

Julia Carpenter as well as the popularity of Sydney is likely why alot of youtube thumbnails show her in uniform instead of Madame Web.

Wasn't Madam Web a wee bit older that this in the comics?

The first Madame Web was, the second one, the former Spiderwoman Julia Carpenter wasn't, although inheriting the Madame Web powers and title left her blind, but otherwise young and able bodied.

Basically they took Julia Carpenter and split her into two, the Spiderwoman role they gave to Sydney Sweeney, and the Madame Web role they blended with Cassandra Web the original Madame Web, to create this version of Cassandra Web. Plus it's kind of a prequel in the sense it takes place in the early 2000's.

Legend
Well, yeah, given that New Mutants wasn't an MCU movie, and neither is Madam Web.

It also ignores the fact that "The Marvels" almost certainly was supposed to come out before "Secret Invasion" originally, and thus the sequence is not so much ignoring the show events come out after the movie. But letting the likely intended reality to get in the way of being snarky is, of course, never a thing one does.
