Here we go, sports fans! Time for the first round of March Madness (D&D Classes) 2024!

We're starting out with the Casters, on the left side of the bracket:

How This Works
  • This is the first round of elimination, and it will focus only on the eight "Caster" classes on the left side of the bracket. The "Martial" classes will be next week.
  • There are four contests running simultaneously in this bracket: Wizard vs. Psion, Bard vs. Artificer, Warlock vs. Druid, and Cleric vs. Sorcerer. This one poll will settle all of them at once.
  • Vote for the four classes you would most like to see advance to the next round. Ideally, voters would choose their favorite from each of those four contests (vote for either the Wizard or the Psion, not both). But there's no way to force you to do so if you don't want to, and I think it could make for some fun upsets. So vote however you like!
  • Vote for any reason you like, too: personal favorite/least favorite, most/least powerful, most/least fun, oldest/newest, most/least played, etc. Vote for whatever you think makes a class worthy of advancing to the quarter-finals.
  • When the poll closes, the votes will be applied to the bracket and the one with the most votes wins. Thus, four of the classes will be eliminated, and four will advance to the quarter-final round on March 16th.
  • In the event of a tie, the winning team will be determined by alphabetical order.
  • For the folks playing to win: each correct guess on your bracket is worth 1 point. Scores will be tallied when the poll closes, and posted to the Leaderboard.
  • For the folks playing for fun: you can still post your bracket to the Leaderboard thread. You might not win a prize, but you'll still get to join the party.

Important! Read before voting!
  • You won't be able to change your vote once you submit it, so vote with conviction.
  • You won't be able to see the poll results until after you vote, so you can vote with clarity.
  • Your vote will remain anonymous, so vote with confidence.

I don't want to mention specific points and scores in this thread (folks should have to vote first to see them), but I'll say this much:

These scores are a lot closer than I expected them to be.

lumping the artificer with the other casters is a bit... odd, but of all the half casters they are by far the most "caster-ish"
I kind of like having the Artificer in with the casters because it's odd. And hey, if nothing else, it provides an option for people who don't really want to support the Casters team but still want to participate. "I hate spellcasters, so I guess I won't be able to vot--oh look, the Artificer is here? Eh, that's barely a caster...I guess it'll do."

The same thing is happening on the other side of the bracket, too. Sort of. "I really can't stand how underpowered the Martials are, so I won't be votin--oh look, Swordmage."

And really, it wouldn't be a proper March Madness without people arguing over the fairness of bracket placement. :) #sportsball

The decision is tough because of the bracketed elimination. My top four casters are: Psion, Wizard, Bard − then a tough choice between Druid flavor and Warlock mechanics ... and Swordmage melee-caster concept. But the brackets force less precise results.
