[May] What are you reading?

The Wise Man's Fear. Great world building, and refreshing start where the emphasis is on the mundane, such as making cider and the ins and outs of becoming a musician with a patron.

Mockingjay. I just finished the Hunger Games and Girl on Fire last month. They are okay, though I think the first book was the best of the three (though I am only half-way through Mockingjay so far). I like some of the things about the books...but I certainly think they are way overrated based on how good I was told they are.

I decided to re-tread some oldies this month. Something about spring makes me nostalgic. I fired up Coming of Conan the Cimmerian this weekend. Then I'm moving on to the Mathias Thulman omnibus, and if there is time I'll dig up The Lies of Locke Lamora.

Nothing really triumphant from a literary standpoint but entertainment is guaranteed :)

I just finished the King of Plagues an hour or so ago. It was too much with the big and evil bad secret society that has all this power yet no one knows anything about them. But they are everywhere and in control of nearly everything. It was like a group of Mary Sue villains.

While I wait for my wife to finish up on some Dresden Files backlog, I'm reading Book Four of Dean Koontz Frankenstein series - Lost Souls.

I was very disappointed with Girl on Fire and Mockingjay, but I respectfully disagree with your characterization of Hunger Games as overrated. It's the first fiction book to make a real impression on me in years. Highly recommended (IMO, of course).

I'm currently reading 1491 by Charles Mann. A fascinating review of current research on the state of North and South America pre-Columbus.

I agree completely that Hunger Games is far better than the other two. And it was an enjoyable read. But it certainly didn't leave me in a "wowed" at all. Just my opinion, of course. I'm notoriously picky when it comes to rating books and movies and such.
